DESCRIPTION

Applies professional concepts, department/unit and campus/medical center/OP policies and procedures to resolve a variety of complex issues in one or more IT areas of specialization. Analyzes complex issues. Within defined procedures and practices, determines appropriate action.

Serve as the functional leader for SCCOOS, a multiple function, networked, end-to-end computing facility including system administration, software development, development of quality control statistical, graphics and heuristic methodology, archive and data dissemination. Design and develop software applications, algorithms and analysis techniques to support the goals of SCCOOS which include the acquiring, archiving, processing and disseminating of environmental data (numerous parameter types for SCCOOS). Represent SCCOOS at national data management meetings, participating as an engaging and active member.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Broad knowledge of various areas of IT. These include full-stack development (e.g. Apache, Tomcat, Python, PHP, Javascript, MySQL, Postgres), data science (e.g. data standards, data warehousing, data formats like NetCDF, data quality, visualization and analysis, etc.) and computational infrastructure (e.g. virtualization (VMWare), containerization (Docker), security, networking, data storage, system administration, etc.)

• Advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation. Basic knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated ability to create software specifications. Specific working knowledge of R/Shiny, Python and PHP.

• Proven ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software. Understanding of and experience troubleshooting client, server and peripherals-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

• Experience in incident response and digital forensics, including data collection, examination and analysis. Diagnostic abilities to deal with SCCOOS legacy and newly developed systems encompassing multiple technologies including R/Shiny, Python, PHP.

• Proven experience with database administration. Working knowledge of database management systems and standards. Knowledge relating to database system design. Advanced database querying and modeling skills working with moderately complex databases. Working knowledge of MYSQL or equivalent database.

• Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion. Ability to convert lSCCOOS datasets from their native format to NetCDF/THREDDS and or MYSQL.

• Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software. Demonstrated skill at administering moderately complex security controls and configurations to computer hardware, software and networks.

• Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
