| Job Description The High School College Counselor assumes overall responsibility for working with Grade 10, 11 and 12 students to guide them through the college search and application process. This is based on a deep knowledge of the needs, aptitudes and aspirations of each student and by working proactively with students, parents and faculty throughout the process to help students determine the best possible college/university match for them. In Grades 9 and 10, the focus will be on interests and career exploration. The High School College Counselor works closely in collaboration with the School Counselors and other members of the ISB community. Search Associates candidates need only apply through Search. Major Responsibilities: - Counsel students and parents in the college admission process
- Develop an effective, pro-active system of communication and support with parents and students regarding the college admissions process
- Support students with all facets of the college admission process (e.g., monitoring and processing applications, proofing essays, providing academic advising, advising teachers on recommendations, etc.)
- Develop, both personally and within the college counselling team, an in depth knowledge of higher education systems and requirements in all those national systems to which ISB students apply
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with college admission officers on behalf of the ISB community
- Attend conferences and visit university campuses as necessary to maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends in higher education in the US, UK, Canada, and other systems (Japan, Korea, Europe, Australia, etc) throughout the world
- Write counselor evaluations in support of student applications
- Prepare and present a variety of seminars to parents, students, and faculty on career exploration and the college application process during school hours and evening programming.
- Assist students with course planning and registration
- Demonstrate a positive and collaborative approach working with other counselors, classroom teachers, and parents on a regular basis
- Provide accurate and relevant information regarding ACT, SAT, SAT Subject tests, LNAT, UKCAT, Cambridge Assessments, TOEFL, IELTS UKVI tests
- Participate actively in the life of ISB, through attendance at events, committee membership and leadership of extracurricular activities
- Provide seminars to students and parents to support them in transitioning from high school life to university
