Essential Functions: Wayne State University Law School seeks an Academic Advisor I/II to join its dedicated team of professionals in the Office of Career and Professional Development. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive career services to Wayne Law students and alumni, with a particular emphasis on law firm opportunities and post-graduate judicial clerkships. The Academic Advisor I/II will assist Wayne Law students and alumni in pursuing careers in law firms and the judiciary. The Academic Advisor I/II will provide individually tailored career counseling, help manage Wayne Law's On-Campus Interview Programs (OCI), create career resources, as well as plan and implement programs and events. She/he will engage in employer outreach to help ensure that students and alumni have timely access to networking and employment opportunities with law firms and the courts. The Academic Advisor I/II will also assist in collecting and reporting statistical data on graduate employment outcomes. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development.Essential Functions:Counsel and advise students and recent graduates through every phase of the career exploration and job search process, with a particular emphasis on law firm employment and post-graduate judicial clerkships.Review and provide feedback on student and alumni employment application materials, including cover letters and resumes.Conduct mock interviews with students and alumni and provide feedback and suggestions for enhancing interview performance.Handle student walk-ins, telephone inquiries and email requests from students, alumni and employers.Maintain positive and productive relationships with Wayne Law student organizations to enhance student knowledge of career planning, job search strategies and employment opportunities.Design, develop and implement workshops and programs to meet the needs of students and alumni who want to pursue careers in law firms and the judiciary.Create career-related resources, including online guides and webcasts related to judicial clerkships and law firm job search strategies and employment opportunities.Develop and maintain effective relationships with legal employers, the judicial community and relevant bar associations.Develop and implement strategies that encourage employers to hire students and alumni.Assist with the administration of the Fall and Winter On-Campus Interview Programs. Remain abreast of local and national employment trends and avenues for enhancing job search success, particularly as they relate to law firms and judicial clerkships.Assist in collecting and maintaining statistical data on student and graduate employment outcomes.Represent the Office of Career and Professional Development at internal and external programs and events, including Open House events sponsored by Wayne Law's Office of Admissions.Speak at law school programs, including Career Orientation for First-Year Students.Work cooperatively with law school faculty and staff to enhance career opportunities for students and alumni. Additional responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required for Academic Advisor I.Master's degree required for Academic Advisor II.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong organizational and project management skills.Ability to manage priorities effectively and meet deadlines.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Effective communication style and strong interpersonal communication skills.Strong presentation skills.Ability to build positive relationships at all levels within the law school, with alumni, the judiciary and other legal employers.Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students.Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.Highly motivated, creative and innovative.Ability to act independently within broad procedural guidelines, take initiative and exercise sound judgment.Ability to collaborate as needed. Strong attention to detail.Ability to work occasional evenings and weekend hours.Excellent computer skills and the ability to quickly adapt to new software programs and online resources.This position is ESS track eligible.
