DESCRIPTIONThe Teaching + Learning Commons (the Commons) is the campus-wide innovative infrastructure for comprehensive faculty and student support. It is the executive branch of the EVC for advancing teaching excellence and student success. The mission of the Commons is to advance student success through teaching excellence and comprehensive academic student support; to be an incubator for student academic success innovations; to increase access to education on campus and beyond; and to advance equity and inclusion within the organization and through its programs and services. The incumbent provides instructional and program design expertise for the design, development, and support of online courses and specialized educational programs, e.g. academic degrees, academic bridging, career advancement and enrichment. Responsible for assisting faculty in the design of online coursework/programs and instructional practices, development of learning resources and re-visioning of courses and course segments to online delivery methods. This position works under the general supervision of the Director of Digital Learning (DL), and plays an integral role in supporting the success of the University's online initiatives. Paramount to the success of this position are an in-depth understanding of instructional design theories and methodologies to online course design; an awareness of current trends in instructional software, multimedia applications and web-based educational technologies; an understanding of online course platforms (e.g. Canvas and Open edX); a currency in best practices in online course design; and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Overtime may be required. This position can be permanently remote.
