Wytheville Community College is recruiting for a full-time Education Support Specialist III (High School Career Coach/Success Coach). This position will work directly with students who attend or want to attend Wytheville Community College as well as students in the high school. This is a grant-funded position and continued employment year to year will depend on grant funds. This position will be housed at the college's Crossroads site and Carroll County High School, and the Wytheville campus when the high schools are not in session. Some of the responsibilities may include: 1. Assess skills, needs, interests, and aptitude of target student population and provide personalized support and counseling on college success; 2. Assist target students with developing individualized academic plans, applying for financial aid and scholarships, identifying academic needs and linking to tutoring or other learning support resources, visiting and or teaching student development course (SDV) classes, and providing follow-up when risk factors such as poor attendance or low grades are evident; 3. Using EAB Navigate and the academic alert system daily to track students; 4. Reporting, controlling budget, planning, and evaluating program activities and securing college or training admissions and needed support services; 5. Serve as a career and college planning advisor for high school students to assist them in choosing a career and identifying an educational pathway for meaningful employment opportunities; 6. Assist students in the post-secondary education planning process including: introduction to the Virginia Education Wizard; searching for an appropriate program/college depending upon the student's field of interest; the completion of the appropriate placement tests or entrance exams, admissions applications and financial aid applications (FAFSA); and, other activities which increase the student's readiness for participation in a post-secondary education experience; 7. Build relationships with key stakeholders, such as school personnel, local business and community representatives, community colleges, and universities to create an environment supportive of career coaching; 8. Case Management and Marketing with recent graduates and provide assistance to the Wytheville Community College Student Services Department; 9. Effective resolution of student issues; and 10. Other duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in a related field such as counseling, human resources, social services, or adult education; Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students; Ability to develop individualized academic plans with students that will lead to program completion; Effective program solving skills; Ability to work with students with identified risk factors for academic success; Ability to work with college faculty and staff in support of student success; Strong communication skills; Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and social media; Applicants must possess a current driver's license and have the ability to provide own transportation to meet with students in various college locations throughout the service region; and Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
