Moses Brown seeks a full-time Visual Arts teacher with particular interest in Ceramics. This Art educator will be responsible for four sections of art classes each semester, with an emphasis on 3D art, ceramic hand building, and wheel throwing. The ability to teach a foundation Studio Art class is preferred. The successful candidate will be able to differentiate between novice and advanced students, help students as they identify their artistic voices, and promote student work. The maintenance of the ceramics studio, making clay, and firing student work are also duties of this position.
Working collaboratively with other members of the Visual Arts department is important to our school culture, as is collaboration between departments. Moses Brown teachers work closely with students outside of the classroom, providing extra help and supporting student work. All full-time upper school teachers also supervise co-curricular activities for some afternoons each year; specific assignments can be discussed. In addition, after the first year at Moses Brown, upper school teachers also serve as advisors for 8-11 students.
To note: Currently, Moses Brown School is in person, offering upper school classes in a hybrid, flexible A/B model. Because no one can predict how long we may be teaching in a revised format, experience teaching in a distance learning and/or a hybrid model is helpful, though not necessary.
Applicants must have bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution. Two to five years of teaching experience is preferred, although not a requirement for application. Master’s degree or beyond is desirable. We seek candidates who are passionate about their desire to teach, advise, and learn from high school students, and candidates who are eager to embrace and forward the Quaker mission of the school.
