Position Summary:

Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) seeks candidates for Licensed Professional Counselor. This is a full-time, 10-month professional position reporting to the Associate Dean of Students/Director of Psychological Counseling and Health Services. The Licensed Professional Counselor provides personal counseling services to Ashland University students to promote optimum mental health and college success.

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops services and programming appropriate to a college population. Services may include, but are not limited to: clinical counseling, testing, guidance, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Creates, manages, and supervises the development of clinical treatment plans.
  • Collects and analyzes client data related to service delivery and outcome.
  • Assists clients with the development of personal skills and strategies for dealing with life concerns.
  • Provides educational workshops/presentations for students in the area of university-based concerns (including RA training, etc.).
  • Provides crisis intervention when needed.
  • Refers students when other University or community resources are needed; e.g. alcohol, drug and/or psychiatric treatment.
  • Serves as a consultant to faculty, administration, and staff regarding questions about mental health.
  • Works continually with the Director to ensure provision of the highest quality care to those requesting services. This may include analysis of current services, as well as any suggestions for potential improvement.
  • Assists with special projects.
  • Serves on designated University committees.

Position Requirements:

  • Master's degree required in Counseling (CACREP) or Social Work (ACSW).
  • Licensure or license eligible and registered with the State of Ohio is required.
  • Expertise and interest in testing, use of data, new student adjustment, family and relationship problems, stress reduction, and psychological evaluation is required.
  • Knowledge of professional standards and ethical guidelines required.
  • Ability to navigate the public mental health system, including working with the county and state mental health boards.
  • Maintain license and CEU requirements as deemed by the State of Ohio Licensure Board.
  • Minimum of two years professional and one year experience in a college or university setting.
  • Flexibility in clinical service delivery; for example, internet, Chat, Skype, etc.
  • Ability to navigate the public mental health system, including working with the county and state mental health boards.
  • Knowledge of national and state ethical standards.
  • Ability to institute risk, crisis and emergency protocols.
  • Expertise and understanding of standard academic testing; e.g. ACT or SAT.
  • Competent to work with a diverse clinical population.
  • Requires evening and weekend availability as needed.
