 BEH HEALTH COUNSELOR 3 (Community Counselor) Department Description Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) provides primary care, mental health, acute care, laboratory, pharmacy, optometry, health education and counseling services to registered UC Davis students. SHCS serves approximately 300 patients per day during the school year. The mission is to provide campus health and wellness resources that enable students to successfully achieve their academic goals and life-long wellness. SHCS has approximately 160 staff including managers, senior professionals, professional and support staff, student employees, interns and post doc residents. SHCS is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), IACS (International Association for Counseling Services), and APA (American Psychological Association). For more information on the department, see https://shcs.ucdavis.edu SHCS mental health staff are an educationally diverse group of licensed psychologists, psychiatrists, masters-level therapists, and predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees, dedicated to assisting students and enriching the university community by providing individual counseling, group services, educational programs, psychological consultation, workshops, and other types of outreach services. Counseling services are offered at no cost to registered students. Community Counselors are members of the CS' CAN Program staff, who assist students, including those from underserved populations, in coping with multiple and intersecting areas of wellness. This includes a holistic approach to areas of concern related to personal, social, academic and career choices, family issues, and other stress factors, i.e., financial and work-school balance. Each Community Counselor works closely with the CS Director of Multicultural Services and the other Community Counselors. Partner units within the Community Advising Network include: Asian American Studies Center for African Diaspora Student Success Center for Chicanx and Latinx Student Success Cross Cultural Center Educational Opportunity Program Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual Resource Center Middle Eastern North African & South Asian Student Resources Native American Academic Student Success Center Services for International Students and Scholars Student Recruitment and Retention Center Transfer Reentry Center/Veterans Success Center Women's Resources and Research Center The partner unit directors or designee will participate with the CS Director of Multicultural Services in the recruitment and performance evaluation process for the Community Counselor assigned to their unit. JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Counseling Services (CS) Director of Multicultural Services, this position coordinates and develops partnerships with 2 student service units to provide regular consultation and effective case management of student situations. This Community Counselor position works with Services for International Students and Scholars and the Middle Eastern North African and South Asian Student Resources and provides the following services to these units; Conduct assessments, respond to student needs, and make referrals to campus resources. Conduct outreach to students, faculty and staff about distressed and distressing students and other mental health issues. Provide consultation to students, faculty, and staff. Provide intake evaluation, treatment planning, crisis intervention, case management, and individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, with referrals to others as needed. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team. This position works closely with the CS Director of Multicultural Services, staff of partner units, and other Community Advising Network (CAN) Community Counselors. PHYSICAL DEMANDS -Work in multiple locations and move from building to building. WORK ENVIRONMENT -Work evenings and some weekends. -Position subject to credentialing process at Student Health and Counseling Services. -Position is subject to pre-placement screening provided by Occupational Health Services. Pre-placement screening will consist of infection control testing that includes blood tests for TB screening and other infectious diseases and may include a physical exam, provided by Occupational Health Services, given at no charge to the applicant. This is done to meet Federal, State and University requirements. -Position requires signing a statement acknowledging requirement to report child abuse (CANRA) and requirement to report suspected abuse of dependent adults and elders. -UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco produces and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space. QUALIFICATIONS Required: -Masters clinical/counseling degree and licensure (e.g., LMFT, LCSW, LPCC). Masters therapist applicants are governed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and are required to possess a valid California license. -Experience working with individuals from diverse social, cultural or socio-cultural backgrounds. -Knowledge of the dynamics of socialization, displacement, transition, oppression, internalized oppression and accommodation, and activism as it relates to the emotional well-being of an individual, while attending to the intersections of identity. -Experience establishing professional work relationships. -Experience treating diverse clients using short-term models of individual and group psychotherapy/counseling. -Experience assessing and intervening when individuals present in crisis. -Experience providing culturally competent services to International clients. -Experience providing culturally competent services to Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian clients. -Experience providing consultation. -Experience developing, implementing programs of a psychological nature. -Current CPR certification or obtain within 90 days. Preferred: -Able to supervise predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees. -Knowledge of ethical, legal and university standards and regulations.
