The Division of Undergraduate Education supports students and creates a living-learning community where students thrive, belong, and are engaged world citizens. As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) provides an array of school-centered and student-centered activities for students, parents, faculty, and community members across the Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley/San Jose regions to support students on the college-going pathway. The EPC coordinates new and longstanding student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across our service area. The EPC provides support to faculty, staff, and outreach groups to work collaboratively with schools, community colleges, and universities to promote educational pathways to success for all students. This position works with The California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) program which is housed within the EPC. COSMOS is a 4-week academic, summer program for students interested in STEM subjects and careers. COSMOS is hosted through 4 different UC campuses across the state of California and is going into its 22nd summer. For more information, check out: https://cosmos.ucsc.edu/. Job Summary Involves planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs, activities, counseling, tutoring and advising focused on students' successful graduation from high school and college, and career readiness. Works with students, program alumni, teachers, counselors, school districts, community stakeholders and parents. Under the general direction of the COSMOS Director, the COSMOS Teacher Fellow is responsible for supporting the academic instructors of the COSMOS program and assist in the development and direction of the program as well as activities in the area of student learning skills assistance. Teacher Fellows also act as the bridge between the academic and community components of the COSMOS program. Core responsibilities include attending and supporting classroom and lab time; attending, supporting and occasionally coordinating logistics; meeting with students, other instructors and teacher fellows; attending discovery lectures; transferring necessary information regarding students to COSMOS administrative staff; provide training in transferable skills regularly (either daily or several times weekly) to help students understand the cluster curriculum, gain skills in research and presenting and better prepare themselves for higher level science education and careers going forward. Although this position is typically located on the Main UC Santa Cruz campus, due to COVID-19 health regulations it is expected to be an entirely remote position. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: $30.00/hour No. of Positions: 11 Benefits Level Eligibility: Core Schedule Information: Part-time 90% weekly 36-40 hours weekly Mon-Fri, occasional evenings and weekends Day Shift Employee Classification: Limited Appointment Job End Date: 07/31/2021 Work Location: UC Santa Cruz Main Campus; currently remote Union Representation: None Job Duties 15% - With guidance from senior educators, uses adopted course of study, program outlines and other materials to support established content and subject matter. 15% - Helps identify students' needs and cooperates with other staff to assess students and help them solve health, attitude and learning problems. 15% - Helps supervise students in and out of classroom activities. 10% - Uses a variety of materials appropriate for students with a wide range of intellectual, physical and emotional maturity. 10% - Models and encourages students to understand and adopt the use of proper social habits. 10% - Communicates with students, parents and staff through a variety of means for education-related purposes, outside the instructional day. 10% - Communicates about STEM subjects in a way that provides the link between the University faculty and staff and the high school students enrolled. 5% - Develops and maintains professional competence through ongoing education. 5% - Participates with senior educator in faculty and other non-classroom meetings, committees and professional development activities. 5% - Helps select appropriate educational supplies, equipment and learning aids, and helps maintain required inventory records.
