Position Announcement Assistant Director of Sorority and Fraternity Life
Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Sorority and Fraternity Life at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is a full-time professional staff member that will work as part of an advising team that provides support and guidance to sorority and fraternity chapters and governing councils in program development and providing leadership development programs for community/chapter officers. In addition, the Assistant Director assists in providing support to sorority and fraternity houses, including housing contract process, billing/collections, inspections, and development of House Directors. The sorority and fraternity community at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville consists of 45 sororities and fraternities with a membership exceeding 4,000 students and, of those, approximately 1,000 live in sorority and fraternity housing. The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life works with four Greek councils and organizations therein (Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Council). This Assistant Director will have oversight responsibility for the Multicultural Greek Council and the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and serve as point of contact for individual chapters in various councils. Position Responsibilities: 1. ADVISING & COACHING a. Serve as primary advisor for one or more sorority/fraternity governing councils; b. Assist with the recruitment and selection process of council officers; c. Coordinate and support chapter membership recruitment and intake process; d. Empower leaders and advocate for students; e. Attend organization meetings, council meetings, and/or various programs on campus to strengthen connection with students; f. Meet individually and in groups with council and chapter leadership serving as a coach to individual chapters; g. Establish and maintain good working relationships and collaborations with chapter advisors, (inter)national headquarters, and supporters
2. COMMUNICATION, OUTREACH, & PARTERNSHIPS a. Serve as a resource for students, parents/families, faculty, staff, and community and headquarters partners on issues related to sorority and fraternity life; b. Assist in the facilitation of community public relations, including but not limited to website updates, reports, publications, and media releases; c. Support accountability processes and outcomes; d. Advocate for resources and development of the field area of sorority and fraternity life.
3. EDUCATION & PROGRAMMING a. Support office programs designed to develop members, leaders, advisors, and supporters through programs and messages for leadership, prevention, and health and safety initiatives, DEI competency, and organizational responsibilities.
4. SUPERVISION & TALENT DEVELOPMENT a. Oversee the hiring, training, support and supervision of at least one graduate assistants b. Assist in the recruitment, training, and support of student leaders and staff c. Attend and assist with coordinating professional staff meetings, individual staff meetings, staff evaluations and feedback, professional development plans, and assist with Division of Student Life and Dean of Students staff initiatives when necessary
5. ASSESSMENT & ADMINISTRATION a. Attend regional and national conferences with students; b. Assist in the oversight and management of sorority and fraternity facilities; c. Assist in the evaluation of department programs for effectiveness; d. Manage and maintain roster and grade report records for chapters; e. Assist in assessing effectiveness of department programs and services.
