Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the full-time, exempt position of Director of the CUC Wellness Center. This position reports to the Assistant Vice-President for Student Success/Dean of Students and is located in River Forest, IL.
The Director of the CUC Wellness Center is a licensed counselor, social worker, or psychologist with current registration in the state of Illinois who provides leadership, coordination, strategic planning and day-to-day administration of a student-centered wellness department. The Director serves as a champion for the student experience working to advance mental health services and medical resources to support student success.
The Director of the Wellness Center is an enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education who exhibits Christ-centered servant leadership and a dedication to student success. He/she is responsible for ensuring that the Concordia University Chicago mission, vision, and core values are integrated into the daily functions of the Wellness Center. This includes, but is not limited to, offering faith-based resources and support to students who are seeking the integration of faith into the counseling process. The Director also maintains a close working relationship with the University ministry team to help bridge medical and mental health services with spiritual care. Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in one of the education-related ministries of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and eligibility for a Divine Call as a Commissioned Minister, is preferred.
The Director of the Wellness Center provides solution-focused and/or short-term individual psychotherapy for students, supportive counseling, assessments and crisis intervention. He/she also provides weekly clinical supervision and consultation to one full-time clinical staff member and 1-2 master's-level counseling interns. Additionally, the Director works closely with the Dean of Students Office to provide quality health care services for students. This includes, but is not limited to helping to manage the on-campus walk-in clinic, assisting with immunization compliance, and leading wellness initiatives for the campus community.
Consistently ensure that the Concordia University Chicago mission, vision, and core values are integrated into the daily functions of the Wellness Center.
Provide leadership, coordination, strategic planning and day-to-day administration of a student-centered wellness department.
Develop policies and procedures as needed, to reflect the changing needs of students, legal guidelines and best practices.
Collaborate with staff to establish annual goals and priorities to ensure appropriate alignment with student success and campus strategic planning and initiatives.
Ensure execution of ethical/legal record-keeping as well as general policies and procedures.
Advise university administration, staff, and faculty on student wellness needs; be able to work collaboratively with students, administrators and off-campus stakeholders.
Provide mental health assessment, crisis intervention, short-term therapy, periodic support groups, case management, and referral services for students.
Develop and maintain systems for comprehensive mental health crisis intervention services.
Implement case management responsibilities: development and maintenance of student records and files.
Prepare, manage, and monitor the Wellness Center budget.
Seek out and hire staff members who are enthusiastic about Lutheran higher education; those who support the mission, vision, and core values of Concordia University Chicago.
Integrate the University's mission, vision, and core values when training new staff members.
Provide hour-long, weekly clinical supervision to full-time clinical staff member and 1-2 master's-level counseling interns, in addition to consultation as needed.
Maintain and/or establish new relationships that can serve to support the staffing needs for the on-campus health clinic.
Establish and maintain relationships with surrounding educational institutions in order to engage in the process and select year-long interns.
Provide leadership for and work collaboratively with Student Success staff to provide programming and support services that help to educate, aid in prevention, and create awareness on mental and physical health topics relevant to all student populations.
Oversee education outreach prevention and education. Provide campus crisis trainings, and participate in residence life training.
Assess training and in-service needs and to provide consultation and arrange/facilitate training and seminars.
Promote the CUC Wellness Center to parents and students at Jump Start, Weeks of Welcome, etc.
Complete quarterly reports summarizing the efforts and outcomes of the Wellness Center. These reports should highlight clinical utilization, new initiatives and future goals for the Wellness Center.
Experience in college counseling setting and/or work with young adult population preferred.
Experience in suicide assessment and intervention.
Possess knowledge and experience in providing services to those affected by relationship violence, sexual assault/abuse, eating disorder behavior, self-injurious behavior, anxiety, and depression.
Knowledge of current campus mental health issues, protocols and best practices.
Demonstrated record of ethical practice.
Must have a proven consistent track record showing the ability to work independently or in a team environment with all levels within an organization.
Must display a high level of energy and self-motivation.
Effective communication skills, including: written, interpersonal, and public speaking.
Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with voicemail, Zoom, psychology-based apps, and MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience with Titanium software preferred
Possess certifications in CPR and First Aid.
Minimum Experience Required:
5 years of post-graduate clinical work experience in mental health; preferably 2+ years of clinical experience in higher education.
Master's degree in counseling, psychology, clinical social work or related field.
Independently licensed to practice in the state of Illinois.
