Genetic Counselor

Clinical

• Collection and interpretation of 3-generation family histories (both maternal and paternal).
• Review of medical records for key affected individuals.
• Pedigree assessment and recognition of cancer susceptibility syndromes.
• Use appropriate models to estimate genetic and empiric cancer risk.
• Informed consent discussion, including benefits of genetic knowledge and family risk communication, privacy, confidentiality and discrimination issues.
• Educate patients about the medical and psychosocial implications of cancer risk and genetic testing.
• Selection of laboratory, coordination of testing and interpretation of test results.
• Provide patient education regarding risk–appropriate medical management and screening options.
• Psychosocial assessment.
• Provide post-test education, counseling and support.
• Dictate medical reports.
• Moderate and participate in case conferencing
• Field inquiries related to genetic testing/counseling services from patients and the public
• Serves as supervisor/coordinator for genetic counseling student rotations
• Develop protocols/standardized procedures for practice in the department. 
• Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, attending in-service meetings and workshops. 
• Attend and participate in meetings.
• Lead clinical administration project
• Represent clinical team in tumor board(s)

Research

• Complete required research compliance training to be able to participate in research collaborations
• Train for and facilitate informed consent for CCG Research Registry

Education

• Complete and provide critical feedback on Intensive Course (IC)
• Participate in IC onsite workshops
• Contribute as faculty to the IC
• Moderate and/or present in IC update conferences

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
