The Residential Resource Counselor (RRC) will provide oversight and on-site supervision at the NEST, a youth emergency homeless shelter for young adults ages18-24. The NEST, which is currently open 7 days a week from 4pm – 9am is expanding its hours to include an 8:30am-5:00pm shift to best respond to the COVID 19 spread.
The RRC will ensure compliance with all program rules and expectations. The RRC will connect the residents to appropriate resources that are needed while establishing and maintaining a safe environment at the shelter and will help residents achieve success in transitioning to housing. The RRC will be required to maintain confidentiality, prepare data to be entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data tracking, and maintain the rules and structures to help keep the shelter operating smoothly.

Maintain and monitor a safe, supportive environment for clients within the shelter.
Complete client intake forms and complete HMIS Consent Forms or other client databases. (Intervene in client crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal)
Develop new referral resources and develop working relationships with outside organizations.
Screen incoming calls and direct appropriate referrals to the Assistant Program Director and Program Director.
Welcome new clients, complete all admissions paperwork and create desired client files
Greet agency visitors and client case managers
Provide routine public information, and refer residents to proper community resources
Assist with letters, memoranda, reports, documents, and other materials; assists in maintaining databases.
Maintain and organize hard copies of resident’s files and e files.
Assist resident with scheduling doctor, housing, WIC, and Mental health appointments.
Assist in planning/hosting special events
Complete an inventory for each resident’s belongings upon admission and discharge.
Monitor cameras, dorms, bathrooms and common area of the shelter.
Help clients work through conflict with others clients living in the shelter.
Document observations and interactions with clients in the daily log
Supervise and provide meals, snacks and follow all food safety guidelines.
Adhere to agency policies, procedures and professional code of ethics.
Maintain written and oral communication with the Assistant Director and/or Program Director related to incidents and complete incident reports within 24 hours of the incident or within 24 hours of when the RSW learns of the incident.
Meet regularly with NEST leadership and attend all staff meetings, annual trainings, and other meetings as required

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
Minimum one year case management experience focusing in areas of healthcare, public welfare or youth development
Minimum one year of experience working with homeless population experiencing homelessness, mental health related issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS related issues, and/or with those living in poverty-require
Demonstrates a positive attitude, self-motivation, organization, and resourcefulness while maintaining a reputation through proven action of being team and client oriented and willing to assist where/when needed.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants, and to refer residents appropriately to outside resources
An understanding and respect for the confidentiality of residents.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Ability to assess emergency and crisis situations and respond effectively
Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other applications as well as experience using and entering data into HMIS or other client databases.
Experience working with clients, co-workers, and volunteers with diverse population, with sensitivity to differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, race, age, and physical, mental illness and treat each individual with respect, dignity, and compassion.
Ability to remain alert and on duty throughout shifts.
Physical ability to lift 25 pounds, sit, stand, bend, reach, and perform cleaning duties.
CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to secure after hire.
