Under general supervision, this position provides professional psychological counseling (individual, group, and couples therapy), case management, assessment, and crisis intervention services to currently enrolled Texas A&M San Antonio students. Provides care for individuals presenting with abuse and violence concerns in addition to individuals presenting with concerns related to equality and inclusion (e.g., predominately Hispanic serving institution, 18% military population, LGBTQ+ population).
This individual will serve as the Group Therapy Coordinator for the Student Counseling Center, which includes oversight of all therapy groups running in the clinic, oversight of all marketing and promotional materials used to advertise group therapy to the campus community, oversight of the group evaluation forms in Campus Labs, lead the Group Therapy planning committee, and serves as the key point of contact for all group therapy questions (e.g., confidentiality, participation, attendance, etc).
This individual will serve as the Diversity and Inclusion liaison for the Student Counseling Center, which includes developing, marketing, and implementing educational programming and outreach to connect and communicate with the University community as it relates to diverse populations and historically marginalized students (e.g., military connected individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, undocumented/DREAMER students, and students of color).Â Â
Provides clinical supervision to Masterâ™s and/or Doctoral students in counseling, psychology, and/or social work.
Coordinates and provides departmental biofeedback services, including advertising services, referring students to this service, and assisting students in getting oriented to using the biofeedback software.
Provides outreach presentations for current and prospective students, faculty, and staff members, and assists with various tabling events throughout the year.
Creates and maintains relationships with community agencies that influence collaboration, advocacy, and maximize service delivery for the student body.

Required Education & Experience:
Required experience for Counselor III position includes a Masterâ™s degree in Counseling and Guidance and/or Social Work or related field, and a minimum of five years of experience in a college counseling center or other relevant clinical setting. Applicant must be fully licensed to practice counseling or social work independently in the state of Texas. No provisional licenses will be considered for this position.Â
Performs other duties as assigned.
Previous professional counseling or case management working with victims of abuse and violence and/or historically marginalized groups of people. Â
Previous experience facilitating therapy groups in a college counseling center setting or other relevant setting.
Training in evidence based trauma interventions.
Background in PTSD treatment, and issues related to diversity and inclusion.
Background in supervision of practicum and/or intern students.
Required Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the State of Texas.
Effective therapist with generalist mental health and clinical skills and demonstrated experience assessing and intervening with clinical issues affecting college students using a brief therapy model. Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of counseling as applied to student academic problems, developmental needs, and diverse learning styles.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of professional and ethical guidelines. Knowledge of working with collegiate student. Experience with assessment of student learning difficulties and various mental health concerns.
Demonstrated familiarity with the use of computer technology, social media, and web based technology and the ability to use this as a medium to offer support services to students.
Must have the ability to balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment.
Professional attitude. Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide excellent customer service to students, employees, and the community.
This is a security sensitive position. The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations. This individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with A&M System policy and is further required to complete FERPA and HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after the individual's employment and on an as-needed basis thereafter. Must be flexible to work within every aspect and able to respond to any situation quickly and adequately.
