The ideal Executive Director candidate will be experienced in working directly with an elected board and governing body. References will describe him/her as a trusted advisor to publicly elected officials and as a person with demonstrated skill working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to energetically and effectively carry out the Port’s mission, plans, goals, and day-to-day operations. He/she will be highly responsive to the public, Port tenants, stakeholders, and Port staff. Strong candidates must have strong leadership skills and a willingness to fully commit to the community, the Port and its goals. He/she will have a strong sense of public service, be committed to outstanding customer service and continuous improvement, and be results- driven. Candidates will have a proven track record of leading, selecting, coaching, motivating and recognizing high performance teams who enjoy their work and take pride in organizational accomplishments. They will create a positive and team-oriented working environment, be available to staff, community, and stakeholders and sincerely solicit and value others input, opinions, and suggestions. They will be persuasive while not always needing to be right. This individual must demonstrate a caring customer service attitude, a strong commitment to operational excellence and be able to display behaviors and a commitment to the organization’s core values. Minimum of six (6) years’ general management experience with three or more years in public sector is preferred. Port experience with marine, industrial, and economic development successes is also preferred. Applicants should have strong management and executive leadership experience. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, economic development, marketing, public policy or similar educational background is required. |
