Waring School Biology Teacher

Mission:  Waring School is a co-educational, college preparatory day school for a student population of 150, grades 6-12, in Beverly, MA. Waring’s mission is “To create and sustain a community of lifelong learners who are working together for the individual and common good.”

Summary: Waring School seeks a Biology teacher to join our faculty in the Science, Engineering and Technology Department in the Fall of 2021. This position is responsible for teaching two sections of 9th grade, Introduction to Biology and one section of Topics in Biology to a class of 6th and 7th graders. Other roles will include support of the school’s greenhouse collection and space and acting as an academic advisor (called a “Tutor”) to a mixed age group of students.

The  successful candidate is a lifelong learner looking to thrive in a small learning community.  Our classes are small and collaboration and discussion are encouraged. As Waring faculty this teacher’s role may also involve other aspects of the student experience such as Athletics, Advising (through Tutorial program), Experiential Learning (through our Endterm and Camping Trip programs), Robotics, Debate, Theater, and other co-curricular activities.

Key Responsibilities include: Teaching courses with associated lab experiences, ordering, organizing and maintaining lab equipment, preparing lessons, curriculum development, meeting with and advising students, and maintaining the school’s greenhouse and its collection.   

Job Requirements:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field of study, Master’s degree preferred;
• At least two years of teaching or related experience;
• Flexibility and willingness to perform many different functions in the independent school setting;
• Some experience with technology and online teaching platforms including Google Drive and Zoom

Overview: Time/Days

• 5 days, variable schedule;
• Attends various ancillary aspects of the school program (Program Night, All-School Meeting, Convocation, Graduation) as agreed upon and as a reasonable for the FTE work %.
• Reports to the Associate Head of School or designee
• Attends weekly Faculty Meeting and periodic SET Department Meetings.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Paid vacation time includes winter break, spring break, and the summer.
