Waring School Computer Science/Engineering Teacher (2021-2022 School Year)

Mission:  Waring School is a co-educational, college preparatory day school for a student population of 150, grades 6-12 in Beverly, MA. Waring’s mission is “To create and sustain a community of lifelong learners who are working together for the individual and common good.”

Summary: Waring School is looking for a computer science/engineering teacher to join the faculty in the Science, Engineering and Technology Department in the Fall of 2021.  The main responsibilities of this position are to teach eighth grade, and possibly high school, computer science classes, or related topics, such as robotics, or other technology/engineering areas.  The exact focus of these courses would be determined by mutual agreement.  This position also entails acting as an academic advisor (called a “Tutor”)  to a mixed age group of students.  Other responsibilities could include teaching math depending on interest and experience (see related posting). Preference will be given to applicants who are able to teach both in computer science or engineering, as well as math.  

The  successful candidate is a lifelong learner looking to thrive in a small learning community.  Our classes are small and collaboration and discussion are encouraged. As Waring faculty this teacher’s role may also involve other aspects of the student experience such as Athletics, Math co-curricular activities, Experiential Learning (through our Endterm and Camping Trip programs), Debate, Theater, and Robotics (housed in our school’s dedicated Makerspace). Other duties to be mutually agreed upon based on the school’s needs and applicant’s interests and experience.

Key Responsibilities include: Developing and implementing computer science, or technology, focused, courses for middle school and high school students.  These courses could focus on a wide variety of topics such as robotics, coding, CADing or other areas.  

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in math, computer science, engineering, or a related field;
• At least two years of teaching experience is preferred, although not a requirement for application;
• Flexibility and willingness to perform non-teaching roles vital to successful school community; 
• Familiarity with digital teaching and learning tools preferred.

Overview: Time/Days

• 5 days, variable schedule; 
• Percent employment to be determined by mutual agreement based on ability to teach computer science/technology and math classes;
• Attends various ancillary aspects of the school program (Program Night, All-School Meeting, Convocation, Graduation) as agreed upon and as a reasonable for the FTE work %;
• Attends periodic SET department meetings and weekly Faculty Meeting;
• Reports to the Associate Head of School or designee.

Note: Those interested in a part-time position with some of these responsibilities are encouraged to apply, since this role could potentially be shared between two part-time employees.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
