Dept Marketing Statement The Division of Undergraduate Education's Office of Campus Advising Coordination works to support undergraduate success, retention and graduation, and to create an environment in which academic advising can take place effectively across the UC Santa Cruz campus. The office collaborates with advisors in colleges, departments, divisions, and student service units, and with campus infrastructure, to improve policies, procedures, and tools; to support programs and innovations aimed at student success; and to provide training and development opportunities for undergraduate advisors.
Involves a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities for an academic department / school / college or organization. Provides assistance to the dean / chair, faculty, and students in academic advising, recruitment, admissions, financial aid, the evaluation and awarding of fellowships and block grant funds, student orientation and events, career counseling, and related programs.
The College Scholars Program Coordinator, under the direction of the Coordinator of Undergraduate Honors and Research Opportunities, provides overall support and coordination. The College Scholars Program is a first and second year college-based honors program through which 200-300 undergraduates annually can expect to challenge themselves academically, find other students who are similarly motivated, and explore undergraduate research. The Program, led by the Faculty Director of Honors in collaboration with College Provosts, includes special courses, seminars, colloquia, and other events throughout the academic year.
The College Scholars Program Coordinator works directly with the Faculty Director of Honors and College Provosts to implement the program, from developing and implementing the outreach and application process, ensuring access to program courses, seminars, and activities. The Coordinator works collaboratively with a broad range of campus partners to ensure visibility and effectiveness of the program.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule Salary Information: $55,000 - $61,000/Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Advises Faculty Director of Honors and College Provosts on implementation of program policies and procedures; reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for program entry and completion; devises curriculum planning in collaboration with Faculty Director and Provosts, and with other departments.
20% - OUTREACH
In consultation with staff and faculty in the Colleges, plans and implements outreach programs to ensure program participation reflects the diversity and demographics of the larger campus population; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals. Plans, designs, and provides workshops for students related to participation in the College Scholars Program.
15% - EVENTS
Plans and implements complex, high-visibility student events, both in-person and virtual. Represents the College Scholars Program at a variety of workshops and student outreach events.
15% - STUDENT SERVICES ADVISING
Applying professional student services concepts, provides a range of student services to students in the College Scholars Program.
15% - ADMINISTRATION
Supports application processes; updates and maintains honors websites; prepares and sends correspondence directed to students, faculty, and staff; orders supplies, prepares purchase orders, and keeps accurate and timely financial records; prepares reports and statistics compiled from a variety of sources to support the assessment process.
10% - OTHER DUTIES
As a member of the Office of Campus Advising Coordination in the Division of Undergraduate Education, collaborates to support the development and implementation of additional projects focused on undergraduate engagement, success, retention, and graduation. This may include the supervision of student staff.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Experience working with undergraduates.
Knowledge of university-specific computer application programs, with the ability to quickly learn and utilize new technology tools.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
Ability to independently set priorities, and complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written, and public speaking skills and the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with students, faculty, staff, and parents of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, and an understanding of the challenges faced by diverse student populations (including but not limited to first generation students, underrepresented students, students with disabilities, low-income students, LGBT students, non-traditional students, veterans) in higher education.
