Department ADMISSIONS ORG (BL-ADMS-IUBLA) Department Information The Office of Admissions is the front-facing department to the public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. The Office of Admissions is responsible for recruiting the freshman class each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions process, providing accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and marketing Indiana University Bloomington. Job Summary The Part-Time Admissions Information Specialist provides information to students, potential students, campus representatives, and external publics on the policies and procedures involved in applying for admissions, as well as provides preliminary information on matters related to financial aid, scholarship eligibility, housing, orientation, student accounts, and other university related policies, procedures and programs. Provides information regarding the processing of applications and determines whether information is accurate and complete. Interacts with applicants to assist in completing applications, resolves discrepancies, and advises students, families, and external constituents such as high school counselors on correct procedures, timelines, and policy interpretations. Interprets courses and grades required for admission, as well as specifically counsels students on admission decisions and provides suggestions on alternatives. Coordinates services by scheduling staff, planning for back-up plans, and supporting the public client services. Manages databases, prepares mailings, responds to inquiries, and advises staff on correct procedures. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED and two years of experience working in a fast-paced, complex customer service area. Proven ability to perform various tasks simultaneously with consistently high accuracy while dealing with the public in a high volume, high stress environment. Ability to exert a consistent positive temperament with continuous public interaction. Demonstrated analytical ability to resolve both administrative and procedural problems. Ability to exert initiative, reliability, flexibility, and positive attitude while handling stressful situations and confidential information and materials. Ability to exhibit competence, patience, and tact in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Knowledge of the university's admissions requirements. Experience in a higher education setting. Knowledge of the university's academic programs and academic record keeping systems. Working knowledge of IU systems and policies and procedures. Excellent communication skills using a variety of mediums, keyboarding skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook and other tools, office equipment, and resources. Working Conditions / Demands Must be able to maintain a complex operational schedule and have some flexibility in work schedule (some weekend work required). Must be able to adapt to changing work environments as this position at times performs work in a very public environment. Position requires a high degree of tolerance for stress, extended time at a computer, and wearing a headset. Some heavy lifting is common. Some visual, neck, and shoulder strain is common due to the intensity of the work. This position is currently remote based. You will need to demonstrate technology and system access to the following:
