The Associate Dean for Professional Practice provides leadership for the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) activities related to professional practice. The Associate Dean will focus on developing, then leading, a vision for faculty practice that impacts practice settings, faculty clinical activities, practice effort, contracts and reimbursement, and extramural partnerships. The Associate Dean will develop and execute a business plan characterized by sustainability and contemporary best practices and will develop new, and enrich current, areas of faculty professional practice and institutional/agency partnerships related to faculty practice.
The Associate Dean will work strongly with other members of the Administrative Group (AG) and ensure that the goals and outcomes of practice align with those of the school’s strategic direction, financial and operational requirements, the UMSN research vision and the school’s academic programs.
Principle Accountabilities: The Associate Dean for Professional Practice is directly accountable for leadership and execution to achieve the following:
Design, execute, evaluate iteratively a novel and contemporary UMSN professional practice enterprise; may have multi-faceted types and locations of nursing practice;
Establish policies, processes for UMSN faculty practice in conjunction with the Dean and Administrative Group;
Oversee the work of the Faculty Practice Plan Advisory Committee (FPPAC) as outlined in the UMSN Bylaws;
Create an environment for faculty and students that fosters innovation in practice design, operations, and affiliations; direct the work of the Director of Clinical Innovation;
Assist faculty in the development of practice innovations that includes external funding acquisition;
Interface with U-M and UMSN business engagement offices when programs have potential for business development;
Work with the Associate Dean for Research and the departments to ensure funding for programs such as Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grants, plan for application submissions based on emerging RFPs and ensure faculty are assigned/supported consistent with such discovery and scholarship activities;
Financial and strategic oversight for the Nursing at Michigan initiative, in concordance with the dean and the chief nursing executive of Michigan Medicine;
Establish mechanisms for reporting faculty practice consistent with general business parameters and generate annual reports, assuring the overall mechanism for the Annual Report for the Office Professional Practice as well as the peer review process as outlines in the Faculty Practice Enterprise;
Establish mechanisms for reporting faculty practice consistent with general business parameters and generate annual reports for the UMSN;
Oversee the credentialing of all Nurse Practitioners in the Clinical Track Faculty according to the standard policies and procedures outlined by the Faculty Practice Advisory Committee guidelines; update the guidelines manual as appropriate;
Ensure compliance with national standards for practice especially those of the APRN roles;
Assure overall mechanism for annual faculty practice reports to be used to generate the Annual Report for this office; assure overall mechanism for the peer review process as outlined in the Faculty Practice Enterprise;
Provide leadership and management of strategic and tactical projects as identified by the Dean;
Work directly with department chairs and other associate deans to collectively identify needs for clinical practice engagement for the school and faculty in alignment with the UMSN mission, values, and strategic goals; and
Provide direction, management, and oversight of professional practice policies, procedures, and services to optimize faculty success and to support strategic UMSN initiatives, including the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion strategic plan.

The successful candidate will be a licensed RN, eligible for licensure in Michigan, and an earned doctorate in nursing or a related discipline.
