Collegiate School seeks an innovative and experienced educator to serve as the Assistant Head of the Upper School. The Assistant Head reports to the Upper School Head and works closely with the members of the division in order to maintain continuity between Collegiate’s mission statement and academic activities. The Assistant Head of the Upper School assists the Upper School Head in all operations for grades 9-12, including faculty evaluation and curriculum development. The Assistant Head must be confident in dealing with teachers and parents, highly organized, an excellent communicator and have a collaborative spirit.
Work with the Upper School Head, Department Chairs and faculty to articulate a purposeful curriculum that ensures continued innovation and excellence in academics.
Provide general and individual academic counseling to students and families.
Oversee and assist the Director of Upper School Scheduling in building the yearly schedule of classes and student class assignments.
Monitor academic progress of individual students and direct the School’s efforts to support students who might be struggling.
Inform and support faculty in their role as academic advisors, in collaboration with grade-level Lead Advisors.
Participate in meetings and activities of the Student Support Team, which includes school counselors and the Chair of Academic Services.
Manage the daily, monthly and yearly calendars, by monitoring the extra-curricular demands of the day, and by communicating information effectively.
Oversee initiatives to promote successful transition to ninth grade, including informational programs for students and parents.
Ensure integration of college counseling with general academic counseling.
Collaborate with Head of Upper School to support the evaluation process.
Responsible for assisting in the recruitment and development of new faculty and staff in the Upper School.
Encourage and support broad participation in school life, professionalism, collegiality, and collaboration amongst division members.
Teach one section of an academic course, modeling the practices outlined in the Collegiate Portrait of a Teacher.
Serve as an Upper School Advisor.
Undertake other projects as assigned by the Upper School Head.
Qualities of a successful candidate will include:
A Master’s degree is preferred
Minimum of five years teaching experience required
Previous experience in administration or leadership roles within a school division
Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
Ability to develop strong rapport with students and enthusiasm for professional growth
Commitment to broad participation in school life
Interpersonal skills for communicating effectively with and supporting all members of the Collegiate community, including students, parents, faculty and staff
Ability to maintain accurate records and confidentiality
