For the 2021-2022 school year, Trinity-Pawling is seeking a History Teacher who is able to teach students to establish historical significance, use primary source evidence, identify continuity and change, analyze cause and consequence, take historical perspectives, and understand the ethical dimension of historical interpretations This individual will also serve as an advisor, dorm parent, and coach (2-3 seasons). Essential Duties - Engage students by implementing meaningful project-based and experiential learning activities and designing projects/classroom activities using 21st-century learning objectives (critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, reflective learning, and cross-disciplinary thinking)
- Deliver instruction where students are asked to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. This includes small group work, meaningful homework, and a tiered level of choices in assignments.
- Create a culture that allows for many different types of learning by giving the students skills to think critically and providing a tiered level of assignments.
- Manage students’ behavior by having systems in place that allow students to grow their best selves both academically and behaviorally; collaborate with administrators/parents on holding students accountable.
- Measure students’ progress by using a variety of valid assessment models, designing assessments to match curriculum objectives, and using Bloom’s taxonomy, as well as rubrics.
- Advise students to meet academic objectives and age-appropriate life skills (interpersonal, conflict resolution, and time management) by meeting one-on-one on a regular basis; prove and obtain updates from other faculty and share information with parents.
- Coach athletic teams by planning and attending all practices, teach students athletic strategies and techniques and ensure there is sportsmanship throughout the season.
- Build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues by providing regular updates to parents and faculty, having meaningful conversations, providing feedback, and being accountable.
- Support the School’s mission by actively participating in the student’s learning inside and outside the classroom, displaying a positive attitude, and engaging in the spiritual life of the School.
- Develop personal mastery by participating in professional development, networking to incorporate best practices, and reading professional publications.
- Connect with students by fully participating in campus life and engaging in extracurricular activities.
- Promote the interest of students by being a good role model, establishing and reinforcing clear boundaries and guidelines, encouraging students’ autonomy and independence, and acting in a transparent manner.
- Follow procedures by adhering to the School’s policies, creating and inputting student-specific comments/grades/attendance into the database, and communicating in an efficient & professional manner.
- Perform other duties as may be required.
