DESCRIPTIONThe Division of Global Public Health and Infectious Disease within the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) aims to conduct high-caliber research on health-related issues and service utilization facing populations in international settings, U.S. minorities and migrants to the U.S. Within the Division, the Center on Gender Equity and Health (GEH) focuses on conducting innovative global public health research, medical and academic training, and development and evaluation of evidence-based policies and practices to reduce gender inequities and gender-based violence and their negative impact on health and wellbeing. This position provides project management support for GEH and its principal investigators (PIs). Incumbent will serve as the Research Project Manager for a research study focused on social norms and networks as they relate to maternal/child health and reproductive/sexual health. This research will be conducted in West Africa (Niger) but the position is located in San Diego. The 4.5-year project, which began in December 2020, will evaluate the efficacy and scalability of a social network approach to improve family planning use among married adolescent girls and young women in Niger. The incumbent will maintain ongoing direct communication with principal investigators (PIs), co-investigators, multi-country research partners (in English and French), and donors to ensure adherence to research protocols, quality of data, and coordination and communication between partners. Incumbent will contribute to grant writing, data-collection tool development, data collector training, program monitoring & evaluation, data management and analyses, manuscript development, and study protocol planning. Incumbent will perform intermediate to advanced statistical analysis. Incumbent will be responsible for monitoring study deliverables, study implementation and performance of study staff. It is expected that the incumbent will author and co-author manuscripts, as well as work independently and with PIs to develop and present presentations at scientific conferences with international partners. Incumbent will visit study sites and/or study partners for the purposes of planning, data collection and/or dissemination. As a project manager the candidate should be able to perform as a seasoned, experienced survey research professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures, with the ability to resolve a wide range of issues, using good judgment to find appropriate solutions.
