![]() Middlebury College Posting Number: S01503 Position Summary: The Director oversees the strategic direction of the Counseling office in collaboration with the executive director, provides clinical and administrative supervision of designated staff, and provides short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health outreach services to enhance the psychological and emotional welfare of students and the College community. Essential Functions: b> Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check. Provides leadership and direction for the Counseling office. Creates a culture of quality care and continuous improvement among Counseling staff. Develops and maintains a collaborative community and campus partnerships that lead to the enhancement of Counseling and Middlebury College students and employees. Develops and articulates strategic plans, protocols, and organizational strategies to support Counseling in consultation with the executive director. Oversees administration and coordination of the resources and activities of Counseling, including: monitoring of clinical support provided to counseling staff; identification and attainment of support; program evaluation; and development of clinical policies and procedures. Directly supervises the associate directors. Delegates appropriate functions to associate directors. Ensures appropriate recruitment, training, supervision, development, and evaluation of professional and administrative support staff, including trainees and post doctoral fellows. Ensures compliance with Vermont mental health law and American Counseling Association and American Psychological Association ethics, including maintaining confidential student records and data and all Vermont licensure and supervision requirements. General Responsibilities: Must handle confidential information appropriately. Maintains highest ethical standards according to Vermont statutes and standards in the mental health professions. Serves as a member of emergency management or other teams as requested. Provides leadership, communication, consultation, and direction in dealing with students who present a danger to themselves and/or others and shares necessary communication when ethically and legally appropriate. Maintains and updates formal protocols, policies, and procedures to be followed in responding to mental health crises and emergencies including after-hours crisis situations. Provides psychological counseling and crisis intervention for students. Maintains case notes and other documentation according to best practices and Counseling policies. Provides or ensures one on one clinical supervision for staff psychologists, counselors, interns, and post graduate fellows. Manages departmental functions as directed by the Executive Director such as special projects or other departmental or College programs. Administers Counseling budget and monitors compliance with all applicable college fiscal policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with others, including multidisciplinary mental health and College medical staff, deans and student life staff. Demonstrates experience and expertise in cross-cultural and multicultural individual, group counseling and outreach services. Serves as a liaison for Counseling Services of Addison County, working collaboratively to ensure continuity of care. Attends consultation meetings with other departments as needed. Trains and supports residential life staff, faculty and others as needed. Reviews and recommends appropriate assessment instruments and other clinical interventions and mental health programs for students. Performs related responsibilities as necessary to properly assess and counsel students. Maintains appropriate state licensing and/or certifications to practice in Vermont. Provides consultation to Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Language Schools in VT and CA, and administrators at Study Abroad sites around the world. Provides individual counseling to students at Bread Loaf Writers Conference and Language Schools in VT. Provides or ensures training and orientation for Language Schools administrators, faculty and bilingual support staff. Qualifications Education: Ph.D. or PsyD. in clinical field preferred. Formal training in clinical assessment and counseling. Demonstrated skills and experience in multi-cultural counseling and clinical supervision. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must maintain and update knowledge of current assessment and counseling techniques and professional license and/or certificates. Experience: Five or more years of clinical experience required. Three years of administrative and supervisory experience required.
