Position Number: 10403 School/College: School of Medicine Job Description: The Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) announces a full-time, open rank, twelve-month faculty position with corresponding administrative responsibilities within the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. This position incorporates clinical, interdisciplinary teaching, community activities, and may include some research. Applicants must have MD, DO, MD/Ph.D and be BC/BE in Pediatrics Endocrinology. The ideal candidate will have experience in academic medicine. Successful candidates will be involved in graduate medical education activities through clinical education. Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes division is located within the UAB Department of Pediatrics at Children’s of Alabama. As the only freestanding Children's Hospital in Alabama, we provide clinical services for most of children and adolescents with endocrinology and diabetes in the state. The division has 12 pediatric endocrinologists, 10 nurse practitioners, 10 diabetes educators, an established insulin pump program, 2 social workers, behavioral counselor to support ongoing care of children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders. It also has several multi-disciplinary and sub-specialty clinics including metabolic bone, lipid, newborn screening, high-risk diabetes, Turner syndrome, thyroid nodule, cystic fibrosis, Duchene muscular dystrophy, and transgender clinics. The Pediatrics Endocrinology and diabetes clinics had 12,500 outpatient visits (6500 outpatient visits for diabetes) in 2019. Children's hospital is the premier health care institution for the children of Alabama and neighboring states. Faculty in the Children's hospital clinics supervise the care provided by fellows, residents, and medical students in a variety of clinics ranging from primary care to specialty services through the UAB.
