| The American Sign Language/English Interpreting Program of the University of New Hampshire at Manchester seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to offer instruction as well as to serve as the ASL/English Interpreting program director. The position will begin August, 2021. The mission of the ASL/English Interpreting program is to develop learners with the knowledge and skills to flourish in the academic environment and in the workforce. To this end, the position encompasses the need for excellence in instruction in skill-specific courses pertaining to interpreting as well as ethics and decision-making, linguistics, and other relevant topics in the discipline. It requires knowledge and experience in pedagogical, scholarly, and practical developments in the field, as well as with the past and current state of the Deaf community in the U.S. The person in this position will coordinate all aspects of the ASL/English Interpreting program, including supervision of and collaboration with the Assistant Director and the pool of adjunct faculty. The Director will work with the Assistant Director to revise/update curriculum as needed, serve as advisor to students in the program, create and/or participate in recruitment efforts, coordinate program events, maintain and support connections with the Deaf community and with interpreting colleagues both locally and nationally, and engage in activities across the College and University in support of the overall institution. The person will also teach six courses in ASL/English translation or interpretation. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester and courses range from introductory to advanced courses in skill-development and relevant content areas. The program has met the National Interpreter Education Standards since 1999, was the first interpreting program in the country to be accredited by the Collegiate Commission on Interpreter Education (CCIE) in 2007, and was the first program to be re-accredited in 2017. Opportunities exist to develop innovative approaches to teaching, engagement, and experiential learning in this nationally recognized program.

| A doctoral degree in Interpretation, Linguistics, Cultural Studies, or a related field is required. Evidence of scholarship in the field and teaching excellence are required. Also, active national certification as granted by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or National Association of the Deaf is required. Membership and participation in the Conference for Interpreter Trainers would also be beneficial. Comfort with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas or Blackboard and other technology-based teaching tools such as GoReact is also useful. Candidates who are multicultural, have native or near-native fluency in ASL, and are Deaf are especially encouraged to apply. |
