Associate Director of College Counseling

Job requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience in independent school-based college counseling and/or selective college admissions and financial aid counseling and a firm understanding of the current college admissions landscape. Five years of experience in college admissions and/or college counseling strongly preferred. 
• Excellent counseling skills with a proven ability to build strong relationships among a diverse student body. 
• A clear commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage and meet deadlines.
• Strong writing and public speaking skills. Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, or Towa language proficiency is a plus.
• Team player and self-starter who can collaborate effectively and think independently. 
• Proficiency with information technology including Google Suite and SCOIR.
• A lively sense of humor.

Job responsibilities include: 

• Working with a caseload of approximately 30 students in each class, guiding them and their families through every aspect of the college search and application process junior and senior year. 
• Maintain a personalized approach to counseling and working with students and families to reinforce the philosophy that "fit" in the college process is different for every student. 
• Address the social and emotional pressures on students and families as associated with the college search, application, and admissions processes.
• Write compelling counselor recommendations. 
• With the Director, organize college counseling events and programming, including: College Application Workshops, SCOIR Trainings, Financial Aid and Scholarship Presentations, Transition to College, Alumni and Parent College Panel, College Speaker, Gap Year, and Case Studies Events. 
• Stay abreast of current admissions and counseling trends through reading and research, maintaining membership in and attending professional associations and conferences, participating in campus visits and tours, and networking extensively with college admissions and college counseling colleagues. 
• Other administrative duties include: database management for SCOIR, managing college admissions rep visits, teacher recommendation and transcript submissions, helping to prepare reports and presentations for Faculty and Board meetings, and maintaining contact with alumni.
• Both the Director and the Associate Director are expected to participate in the full life of the school and build relationships with faculty and students by visiting classes and attending faculty meetings and in-services, being present on campus and at assemblies and forums, and taking part to the extent possible in other school activities and events. 
• Coordinating the Senior Internship Program (SIP) and serving as a community service committee member for “Senior TAP”. SIP is a 4 week unpaid work opportunity seniors experience in the spring; TAP is the school’s Teen Action Program through which seniors conduct independent community service projects.
