The Division of Gynecologic Oncology has a unique opportunity to work with Dr. Elizabeth Swisher, whose prime objective is studying the genetics and prevention of ovarian cancer and with Dr. Kemi Doll, whose prime objective is investigating and ameliorating racial disparities in gynecologic oncology. The position will be split 50% FTE with Dr. Elizabeth Swisher and 50% FTE with Dr. Kemi Doll. The mission statement of the University of Washington Medical Center states that the Medical Center serves as a research resource, providing an environment in which clinical research may be conducted. This position is essential to that mission. This position provides contributions to research development and implementation for the Division of Gynecologic Oncology. The scope of the work involves research involving at least 130 participants, interaction with national advocacy, research, and professional society organizations, and interaction with local community organizations and health systems. The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology’s research program has continued to grow over the last five years and this position is vital to the success and growth of the department. The research program plays a critical role in offering innovative and life-saving care to women in our hospital system. As Research Coordinator, you will be a vital member on multidisciplinary teams which includes biostatisticians, analysts, qualitative scientists, as well as grant administrative and project management support. Dr. Doll’s portfolio also includes a patient-led advocacy organization, the Endometrial Cancer Action Network for African-Americans (ECANA). ECANA seeks to improve survival and quality of life for Black people with endometrial cancer through community-building, research partnership, and education. ECANA is led by a Steering Group of patient advisors, a community advisor, and clinical and research experts. You would work closely with the ECANA steering group in this role. On both teams, your role will be assisting with both quantitative and qualitative research projects, patient research engagement & community liaison support. The position may involve travel to national meetings once to twice per year, once it is safe to do so. Job duties of this position include: Human subject research support: •Assist with IRB applications, modifications, and renewals. •Conduct independent literature searches and produce summaries to guide project development based on ongoing research findings and future steps. •Assist research manager with compliance efforts for sponsoring entities. •Draft research and quality assurance protocols for a variety of data collection efforts, which meet research objectives and ensure compliance with University of Washington and funder guidelines. •Contribute to quality assurance checks and ongoing monitoring. •Assist with screening and enrollment of patients for clinical and qualitative studies, including by communicating the study protocol, conducting verbal and written informed consent to potential subjects, and scheduling for research activities. •Oversee, maintain and complete data collection and entry for an extensive computerized subject database. •Maintain secure patient database/medical chart abstraction from data available in medical records. Data and project management, coordination, and analysis: •Create and maintain organized research project portfolio documents with project tracking. •Work independently to produce tables, charts, graphs for manuscript and grant preparation from sources including analyst reports, publicly available data, and literature searches. •Organize data storage and management for qualitative study (including interviews with cancer patients, caregivers, and non-cancer affected community members). •Guide internal team operations by developing process-related reports and data visualizations for managing project progress and identifying barriers to progress. •Active and collaborative participation in lab and team meetings and project planning sessions. Patient and stakeholder engagement: •Supporting the relationship with ECANA partners through meeting scheduling, email communication, and tracking consultant fees. •Work professionally with representatives from national advocacy and professional organizations in collaborative research efforts. •Fielding external outreach requests to research team. Other administrative duties as needed: •Support Dr. Doll and project team with meeting logistics, note-taking, event planning, maintaining records of communications. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS •Bachelor's Degree in public health, health services, epidemiology or related area equivalent education/experience AND a minimum of two years of experience as a Research Coordinator or equivalent. Additional Requirements: •Prior experience working in reproductive or gynecologic health. •Experience with grant writing or management. •Experience with qualitative methods. •Excellent verbal and written communication skills. •Understanding of data analysis and their applications to research. •Intermediate or higher-level skills of MS Office suite. •Independent time management skills, including ability to prioritize workload. •Excellent ability to work in teams. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements. DESIRED REQUIREMENTS •Prior professional or community experience in reproductive/gynecologic health & healthcare, racial disparities/social determinants of health with self-motivation for continued independent learning in anti-racism praxis and gender inclusivity. •Experience with interacting or managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders and roles. •Experience in cancer care or research. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This position will work in clinical research involving human subjects within UW Medicine and therefore clinical Research Study Coordinator training is required, including research-specific training in Protection of Human Research Subjects, Good Clinical Practices and HIPAA compliance. The training requirement for this position includes UW Medicine-specific as well as general training.
