The Dean provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the collegeâs Division, with responsibility for degree credit programs, as well as a Career Studies Certificate programs. As part of an academic management team pursuing excellence through collaboration and creation of a learner-centered environment, the position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean implements divisions goals and objectives related to the collegeâs strategic plan; oversees program and course development and evaluations; promotes and maintains relationships with community agencies, organizations and businesses that support the division; recommends the hiring of full-time and adjunct faculty and division staff; evaluates full-time and adjunct faculty and divisions staff; implements college policies and procedures appropriate to division operations; manages operations of relevant grants and contracts; manages the divisions budget and expenditures; and ensures compliance with state mandated performance measures, regional accreditation requirements, and standards for professional program accreditation. The Division for Public Safety, Allied Health and Human Services contains a wide variety of academic programs including Associate of Science degrees, Associate of Applied Science degrees, Certificates, and Career Studies Certificates that support direct transfer to 4-year colleges and universities, as well as direct pathways to careers. The academic disciplines include Fire Science Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Health Science, Dental Hygiene, Nursing, Economics, Administration of Justice, and Paralegal Studies. *Primary Duties:* Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Division. * Responsible for degree credit programs and Career Studies Certificate programs. * Gives focused attention to budgetary planning and operational processes that effectively support the needs of College. * Proposes, creates, and implements projects and initiatives that serve the Collegeâs strategic goals for student success, excellence, and innovative partnerships. * Advises the Vice President for Academic Affairs on matters related to development, implementation and review of programs to include admission policies and procedures for the division. * Serves as liaison with internal and external auditors while ensuring compliance with statutes, policies, regulations and procedures of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and the Commonwealth of Virginia. * Participates in creating and administering the division budget to ensure effective and efficient use of the divisionâs resources. * Leads, manages, and coordinates assessment of college and division goals and of outcomes. * Resolves student, faculty and staff complaints based on applicable policies and procedures. Provide oversight for curriculum development and innovations, program and course review, and assessment of student learning outcomes for the division. * Builds and maintains strong relationships with community and four-year institutions to ensure graduates are prepared for success in meeting employer expectations and/or baccalaureate degree program admissions requirement. * Ensures compliance with requirements and standards for SACSCOC and specialized or programmatic accreditation with special attention to student learning outcomes. * Conducts systematic curriculum development and review, ensuring continued excellence in signature programs, and building new and emerging programs. * Coordinates with program and department chairs on curricula, scheduling, staffing, and assessment. * Creates faculty class schedule assignments and monitor and report faculty workload. * Promotes and ensures quality, accuracy, and responsiveness of student advising. * Promotes effective use of technology in face-to-face and online instruction. Directs, plans, organizes, and provides leadership to the day to day operations and recruit, develop, supervise, support, and evaluate full-time and part-time faculty. * Provides constructive feedback and professional development to ensure faculty and staff have the necessary skills and abilities to accomplish goals and objectives. * Evaluates faculty based on the Faculty Development and Evaluation plan to ensure that faculty is academically and experientially qualified, mentored and monitored. * Recruits and recommends, for employment, candidates for full-time and part-time faculty and staff positions. * Ensures that faculty and staff credentials meet all applicable state and professional licensing and accreditation requirements. Develop pathways for timely program completion for programs in the Division and meets the needs of students and community stakeholders both on and off campus. * Represents the college as appropriate at community functions, state-wide and national meetings to promote and market the collegeâs programs and services. * Works with Workforce Development and business and industry to develop and maintain internship and cooperative education opportunities for students. * Reviews processes, procedures, and collaborates in the implementation of new technologies and workflows to improve services to students. * Works with four-year colleges and universities to develop and maintain innovative partnerships that provide effective pathways for efficient transfer. * Provides leadership for special programs and initiatives, to include dual enrollment, early college, and college readiness in conjunction with regional high schools; developmental mathematics; honors; student cohorts and learning communities; service learning. * Ensures compliance with all Federal/State laws.
