YOUR POSITION WITH TNC
The Senior Corporate Engagement Advisor is a member of the Corporate Engagement team in External Affairs, who will focus on Natural Climate Solutions (NCS). The preferred location is Arlington, VA (DC Metro Area); however, the location could be flexible.
The Senior Corporate Engagement Advisor develops and implements strategies for engaging companies; coordinates and conducts outreach to companies related to NCS; manages and supports specific NCS corporate engagements; supports TNC Global Field Programs in the development of new NCS projects, and conducts analysis on behalf of and contributes to the Corporate Engagement team’s functional priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
Expand TNC’s participation in NCS by developing relationships and working effectively with corporate and other external partners.
Serve as relationship manager to specific corporations and support NCS engagements.
With a team, design and manage major meetings, including gatherings of corporate, government, and non-governmental representatives.
Conduct research, with minimum support, to inform the Corporate Engagement team’s NCS strategy and activities.
Demonstrate strong communications and presentation skills. Able to prepare and present NCS project proposals and negotiate with external parties.
Persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse groups who are critical to the Conservancy’s overall strategies.
May supervise administrative and professional staff with responsibility for performance management, training and development.
May include fundraising activities.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and external requirements.
Financial responsibility may include working within/managing a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget development.
Responsible for meeting departmental strategic goals and objectives.
Communicates professionally with a wide variety of people from different cultures.
Works in partnership with other organizations in a collaborative and consultative or advisory capacity.
Ensures program compliance with internal policies and external requirements.
Effectively directs and or participates in complex negotiations.
Develops constructive and effective working relationships inside and outside the Conservancy.
Bachelor’s degree in environmental policy, business, political science, or related field and 6 years of senior management level experience in corporate sector, NGO, or equivalent combination of education/experience
Experience initiating or managing Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) programs, projects, or transactions
Experience preparing and presenting project proposals and negotiating complex high profile or sensitive agreements or projects
Fluency in English
Direct experience working with partners
Project management experience including coordinating the work of other professionals inside and outside an organization
Proven experience in strategy development and implementation and decision making
Demonstrated relationship building skills
Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives
Experience negotiating complex high profile or sensitive agreements
Proven written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated
Master’s degree (MBA or other)
Knowledge of carbon finance, markets, and related accounting and other standards
Experience working with global partners on project development
Experience presenting to and communicating with management-level individuals within the corporate sector
Experience conceiving and implementing strategic initiatives
Experience developing and executing sustainability programs within companies
Demonstrated success serving as a project manager on diverse, international, virtual teams
Excellent team player with experience working in multi-disciplinary groups, using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with corporations, governments, partners, and all levels of staff
Experience working with government agencies
Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills
International experience and language skills
