Lower School Principal
Rowland Hall-St. Mark's School
The Lower School Principal oversees all aspects of the Lower School, which includes approximately 275 students in grades 1-5 from all over the city, as well as Park City and the surrounding communities. Students and families are attracted to Rowland Hall’s Lower School for its excellent academic program, its small class sizes, and its caring community. The Lower School faculty is dynamic, experienced, and committed to working with elementary school students. Lower School students have a dedicated classroom teacher as well as specialty classes in science, Spanish, chess, physical education, art, music, and library. The Lower School Principal is responsible for providing pedagogical expertise and curricular oversight; hiring and mentoring faculty through a comprehensive evaluation and professional development plan; working closely with the Assistant Principal, the Emotional Support Counselor, the Academic Support Counselor, and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction as well as all faculty and staff in the division. In addition, the Lower School Principal is integral in discussions of student life, financial and operational matters, and works collaboratively with the other school principals to ensure philosophical and programmatic alignment across the entire school.

The school seeks an experienced teacher and administrator who is interested in progressive education and collaborating with faculty members and administrators to effectively incorporate the latest research into our curriculum and instruction. Candidates should have a clear vision of their role as a leader and a strong understanding of what it means to support teachers in instructional practices. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, a sense of humor, cultural competence, and the desire and ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of best practices and a love of working with children, particularly in grades one through five, is essential.
