The Middle School Math Teacher is part of a larger Middle School faculty team dedicated to meeting and nurturing the unique developmental needs of the young adolescent learner. The Middle School Math Teacher is expected to share his or her passion for science in engaging and meaningful ways that build on the students’ natural curiosity and foster interactive, participatory and discovery learning. The Middle School Math Teacher also serves as an advisor and contributes to the school's rich extracurricular programs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teaches a standard load of Middle School math courses (typically 4 sections) in a manner consistent with the mission and educational philosophies of Cary Academy.
• Provides personal and academic guidance to a group of student advisees.
• Leads and/or supports extracurricular activities, including a club during the Middle School club period and FlexDay activities.
• Works collegially in teams in ways that foster professional collaboration and exchange.
• Is readily available to students for extra help and guidance outside of class.
• Communicates effectively with parents and responds to concerns in an appropriate and timely manner.
• Participates in grade level trips.
• Seeks out and engages in ongoing professional development.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in the content area (advanced degree preferred).

Experience: At least 3 years of full-time teaching experience in the content area with Middle School students.

Equivalency: Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
