Director, Global Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting US-NY-New York Job ID: 2020-7541 Type: Office of the SVP Finance and Budget/Chief Financial Officer (WS2704) # of Openings: 1 Category: Finance/Real Estate/Procurement/Grant Management New York University Overview The Director of Global Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting is responsible for leading the Universitys GAAP financial reporting processes and ensuring complete, accurate and timely deliverables for University management and external auditors. The Director is the primary resource for identifying and resolving technical accounting matters, including the development and delivery of policies, procedures, training, and technology enhancements relating to the implementation of new accounting and financial reporting requirements and changes to existing requirements. The role will research and provide technical accounting guidance for complex transactions initiated by the University and liaise with external auditors, outside technical advisors and/or other partners as appropriate. The Director will lead the Global Accounting and Financial Reporting team in the continued implementation of policies, procedures and supporting technology for accounting, reconciling, and reporting for the Universitys sites outside of New York City and will manage all aspects of the financial statement audits for these locations. Responsibilities Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Finance or Accounting Preferred Education: Master's Degree Finance, Accounting, or Taxation or MBA Required Experience: 7+ years relevant supervisory experience within a finance or accounting organization or equivalent combination. Must include experience with accounting and reporting regulations relating to non-profit organizations. Experience preparing financial statements and supervising staff. Preferred Experience: 10+ years relevant experience in a progressively responsible supervisory position within finance or accounting area of a university or public accounting firm specializing in not-for-profit industry. Experience with evaluation of internal controls, reengineering and preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Public Accounting background is strongly preferred. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Not-for-Profit financial reporting and COSO framework for internal controls. Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication, and presentation skills. Ability to ensure personal and team deadlines are met. Strong interpersonal skills needed to lead others, including internal and external partners at all levels of the organization. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: PeopleSoft financial software for Education and Government, Oracle Business Intelligence, Hyperion. Knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards). Strong accounting, financial reporting and analytical skills. Ability to write well, speak effectively, and work in fast-paced analytical team is essential. Ability to understand long-term goals and broader planning parameters and ability to frame results of financial and policy analysis in a clear, cogent, concise, and compelling fashion.
