Music therapists work as part of a health care team that includes physicians, psychologists, nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, rehabilitation counselors, social workers and teachers. They determine and implement a client’s therapeutic goals and objectives with children, adolescents, adults, groups and/or families.
Here is some of what you can expect from being a Music Therapist with us:
You will evaluate behavioral health clients in an acute setting to determine appropriate level of inclusion in music therapy
You will determine strategies for therapeutic interventions through the use of music
You will participate in the interdisciplinary process of individualized treatment planning
You may perform other duties as assigned by supervisor when the need arises
Required Job Qualifications include:
BLS-Healthcare provider through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
CPI certification within 6 months of hire and re-certification every 2 years thereafter
Master’s degree required with certification as a Music Therapist. Experience in Behavioral Health related field preferred
One to three years of clinical/direct behavioral healthcare experience
Must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and able to work with a highly diverse population
Must be knowledgeable of ADAD and JCAHO standards
Must be knowledgeable of behavioral health evaluation and consultation processes
Must have ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work in high stress environment
Must be able to apply critical thinking and formulate diagnostic impressions based upon review of systems, history, symptoms and current presentation
Must be able to provide crisis intervention and utilize system resources/referrals
