Location: Hyde Park Campus Job Description: - Serve as the staff leader for the Pritzker School of Medicineâ™s career advising program. Provide support to the Dean of Students, the Director of Preclinical Advising, the Director of Medical Student Performance Evaluation, and 8 faculty Career Advisors in organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs and activities to support medical student career exploration. Implement career development content into formal and informal curricula (class meetings, orientations, student groups, etc.) throughout the course of the four-year medical school educational program. Develop and implement a new career advising program to begin in the MS1 year, working closely with the Director of Preclinical Advising. Organize panels, workshops, and individual career exploration interventions. Take responsibility in ensuring a successful outcome of the residency advising and match process. Coordinate the activities of 8 Faculty Career Advisors in working with all MS4 students in the match. Recommend process improvements for programs that support successful management of career advising.
- Manage and expand technology to support these processes, including working with the AAMC CiM program, the homegrown residency outcome database, the Electronic Residency Application Service, and the National Medical Ranking Program interface.
- Manage the development of the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE) for all graduating medical students. Work with the MSPE Faculty Director, members of the Curriculum Staff, and Faculty Directors of the Required Clerkships to enhance existing processes and student management system technology to ensure the accuracy of all clinical evaluations and reporting of medical studentsâ™ extracurricular activities.Â
- Work with staff in curriculum and central support who provide support in the compilation and review of data included in the Medical Student Performance Evaluation, including recruiting, hiring, and managing student workers on an as-needed basis.Â
- Oversee schoolâ™s communication and publications for external and internal audiences. Serve as the main grant writer for the medical school, seeking opportunities to enhance support for PSOM programs. Support the development and maintenance of the PSOM website as well as all recruitment marketing collateral with staff from the Office of Admissions and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, including digital media, online videos, website development. Provide oversight for the effectiveness of the Pritzker website, including reviewing content and organization for effectiveness ease of use for all audiences. Write and regularly update stories on the Pritzker website home page. Support the internal messaging within the medical school from the Deans to faculty and students, as well as letters of reference from the DFME and Dean of Students supporting student applications to joint degree programs, internal and external awards, and other opportunities. Assist the Deans with high level correspondence and communications. Because of the very high volume of the Deansâ™ correspondence and the sensitivity needed to communicate with students, this individual will need to demonstrate outstanding writing skills, outstanding personal judgment and discretion, and strong organizational skills to ensure timely response and effective communications.Â
- Provide support for key initiatives related to student service and support at the Pritzker School of Medicine, including the Identity to Inclusion committee and other student run organizations. Serve as the staff support to expand the range of services and programs offered through these student life organizations. Work with faculty and student leaders to develop and implement new initiatives and monitor and collect data to evaluate and assess the impact of these programs. Participate in preparation and presentation of scholarly work describing and disseminating these initiatives as innovations locally, regionally, and nationally. Provide oversight of processes and procedures to recognize medical student accomplishments (AOA, Graduation Honors & Awards, etc.) to ensure fairness and transparency. Recommend process improvements for these programs to enhance wellness, support an inclusive learning community, and promote transparency and clarity in awards processes.
- Conducts regular meetings with students to discuss academic programs, choice of major, academic progress and career goals. Facilitates students' progress towards the degree.
- Advises students with minor academic difficulties and counseling while responding to queries from faculty, staff and parents.
- Keeps records of student degree programs and notes on student conversations.
- Writes letters of recommendation for students for jobs, scholarships, and graduate schools.
