Currey Ingram Academy seeks a Director of Residential Life. The Residential Life program is entering its second year and this is an opportunity for a dynamic leader to forge and shape a young program. Complementing Currey Ingram's well-established and nationally recognized k-12 day program, the Residential Life program was created to serve students with learning differences, within and beyond the greater Nashville area. The ideal candidate has experience with both boarding schools and schools for students with learning differences.
The primary role of every person at Currey Ingram Academy is to embrace and uphold the mission of our school. As a member of the faculty, this individual will serve as a role model for leadership in developing and maintaining mission-driven endeavors of Currey Ingram Academy.
The Director of Residential Life will:
Oversee the Program
Oversee the welfare of all students in the Residential Life house and act in loco parentis for Residential Life students during term time.
Be proactive in seeking to forge excellent personal relationships with Residential Life students, their parents and/or caregivers.
Assist in developing policies, systems, and procedures specific to Residential Life.
Maintain high standards of personal conduct in the Residential Life house, in accordance with school policies.
Induct new Residential Life students and liaise closely with their parents before, during and after their arrival at the school.
At all times maintain well-written and timely communications for students and parents.
Keep SFM informed of any health and safety and/or maintenance issues that may arise during the course of the term.
Keep Sodexo informed of any food/dining issues that may arise during the course of the term.
Hold regular weekly meetings with the staff operating in the house.
Advise on the running of weekend activities, and leading on weekend duties, where required.
Be an advocate of Residential Life across the wider school.
Carry out daytime and evening duties, as necessary.
Carry out weekend duties, on rotation, as necessary.
Supervise off-site trips for Residential Life students and complete the administrative tasks for such trips, as necessary.
Finance & Budget
Develop, manage, and oversee the budget for the Residential Life program.
Order departmental materials and manage budget with the Business Office as necessary.
Personnel & Staffing
Take responsibility for ensuring high standards amongst the staff, oversee their appraisal in accordance with the school’s existing systems for performance management.
Draw up duty rosters and ensure that duties are divided up equitably and the house is properly supervised at all times.
Manage the hiring process for Residential Life staff.
Manage the Residential Life team in order to ensure the smooth running of the house.
Meet with colleagues from across the school, as needed.
Assist in the recruitment and admission process for Residential Life students.
Connect with independent school consultants in an effort to market the Residential Life program and find prospective families.
Work with the Director of Communications to create appropriate marketing material, both print and online.
Develop a comprehensive, competitive and appealing Residential Life program.
Attend professional development opportunities in order to further knowledge of Residential Life programs.
As necessary, visit various Residential Life facilities across the country to gain insight and establish professional partnerships.
Support the Academic Progress of the Residential Life Students
Maintain an active interest in the academic progress of Residential Life students in the house and interceding on their behalf as required, for instance, by attending parents’ consultations etc.
Liaise closely with members of teaching staff across the school, as well as administrative staff and auxiliary staff to ensure the smooth running of the house.
Provide regular feedback to parents, as part of the school’s reporting procedures.
Support Residential Life Students in the areas of EF and SEL
Collaborate, when appropriate, with the Upper School Counselor to set up and/or support any needed outside services, such as therapy.
Collaborate, when appropriate, with the College & Career Counselor in the Upper School to set up and/or support visiting colleges and/or school fairs.
Create, implement and monitor individualized executive function support when necessary to promote greater success in school and/or Residential Life components.
Support the school and its leadership.
