The Financial Aid Advisor I, under direction, counsels and provides student financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families. Assists in facilitating workshops and learns to make presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. In addition, this position serves as front-line advising staff responsible for providing exemplary customer service to students and parents, and constituencies regarding financial aid opportunities demonstrating thorough knowledge of eligibility requirements as well as federal, state, and University guidelines. Assists with the monitoring and rendering customer service to students and families via the phone queue, virtual counseling, office lobby queue, and the front desk by providing exemplary customer service.
Counsels prospective and current student and families concerning school related financial aid issues including the application and awarding process, budgeting, and the securing of resources to meet expenses. Involves knowledge of the need analysis formula(s) and the process of awarding the revising aid awards. Contact with students and families will consist of counseling by phone, in office, virtual, as well as email.
Participates financial aid committees, financial aid outreach events, and public speaking engagements, professional development training, attend financial aid conferences, and be active in professional financial aid organizations. Prepares, coordinates, and conducts presentations and workshops on financial aid related information at both on campus and off campus programs, high school visitations, joint recruitment and financial aid programs, summer orientation programs and tele-counseling activities. Provides support for federal, state, institutional, and private financial aid programs, including supporting activities related to the management of University scholarships from donors outside of the University.
Assists in various processing areas such as verification reviews, award adjustments, and other routine financial aid tasks as well as communicating to agency officials, secondary and post-secondary educational institution representatives.
Responds to electronic, written, and verbal (telephone) communications from constituents regarding financial aid concerns. Participates in all efforts to implement the mission and goals of the OSFA. Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by the Financial Aid Manager and/or Associate Director and Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in an applicable field.
No prior experience required.
Some experience in planning, organizing, or in higher education preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Oral and written communication skills.
Customer Service skills.
Ability to work individually or as a team.
Ability to organize and make decisions.
Ability to relate well with a diverse student population.
Requires some evening and weekend work.
Must not be in default or owe an overpayment of a federal and/or state aid program.
