Initial Review Date (IRD): 02-16-2021 Dept Marketing Statement Under the general supervision of the Services for Transfer & Re-entry Students (STARS) Director, the Cultivamos Excelencia Program Director will provide leadership and oversight of partnerships and projects collaboratively designed with Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives, and executed between UC Santa Cruz and community colleges. The Program Director is an essential staff member who is advancing sustainability of the Title V: HSI 'Cultivamos Excelencia Project' originally funded by the US Department of Education. By working together, UC Santa Cruz and partner community colleges will use a combination of interventions to encourage low-income students and students of color to develop self-efficacy, skill development, and motivation to transfer and complete their bachelor degrees. The Program Director provides strategic leadership and oversight in project planning, development, evaluation, implementation and institutionalization of the Cultivamos Excelencia program. The Program Director is responsible for utilizing research-based and data-driven expertise to: (1) identify and address barriers to the success of transfer, first-generation, low-income and other historically underrepresented students at UC Santa Cruz; (2) achieve the highest standards of academic excellence through the development, implementation, evaluation, and institutionalization of program activities that significantly increase the transfer, graduation rates, and time-to-degree for students from San Jose City College and other community college partners; and (3) develop and provide culturally relevant pedagogical training to graduate students, staff and faculty who are associated with the program. The Program Director supervises staff; has oversight of budget resource allocation; coordinates strategic planning on transfer initiatives; and leads the design, implementation and evaluation of the Cultivamos Excelencia program. The STARS mission is to achieve equitable experiences and outcomes in higher education for transfer, re-entry and independent students, with an expertise on navigating community college pathways. We work collectively with students and colleagues to remove institutional barriers and co-create a campus that ensures equitable access, belonging, persistence, graduation and excellence. We holistically support students who disproportionately enter higher education through community colleges, including: students of color, low-income students, parenting students, older students, veterans, those with gaps in their education, as well as students who do not have traditional family support due to experiences with the foster care system, homelessness, incarceration, or other factors impacting their family life. The Division of Student Affairs and Success includes student services and academic support units with a goal of increasing and sustaining student retention and success with a focus on educational equity. STARS is a part of a cluster of units within Student Achievement and Equity Innovation, along with the Disability Resource Center, Educational Opportunity Programs, Learning Support Services, Resource Centers (African American, American Indian, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Chicano/Latino, Women's Center, Lionel Cantu Queer Center), and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives.
