Mental Health Clinician III

Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a motivated Mental Health Clinician III for the Outpatient Department at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC).

Under supervision, the Mental Health Clinician III provides culturally competent outpatient clinical services that meet the needs of the designated adult population. The Mental Health Clinician III participates in the assessment of clinical needs and provides focused skill acquisition and symptom management using evidence supported individual, group, and family therapy for mental health and co-occurring chemical abuse/dependency.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Involves client and/or family in developing achievable and understandable recovery oriented treatment plans that promote the client's strengths, independence, and autonomy.
• Makes appropriate case disposition and referral decisions.
• Supports and empowers clients to advocate for appropriate resources based on assessed needs.
• Intervenes effectively with other systems on behalf of clients and their families in situations where language or cultural barriers impede appropriate care and service.
• Assists clients in effectively managing crisis situations and formulating crisis/safety plans.
• Understands and responds with sensitivity to cultural, spiritual, and socio-economic values and concerns of clients.
• Maintains effective, open communication with members of treatment team(s).
• Maintains clinical documentation standards as mandated by UBHC policy and other applicable entities.
• Regularly attends and participates in training events and actively pursues professional growth and continuing education.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Master's Degree in mental health or a related discipline and a New Jersey license as required by discipline. Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrated competency in treating adults and families.
• Ability to assess level of care needs and provide outpatient group therapy treatment.
• Ability to implement Universal and Safety Precautions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC).
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
• Competency with electronic clinical documentation.

Special Conditions:

• May work at least one (1) evening per week.
