Job Title: Development Coordinator (Casual)
General Description: The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) is a leading graduate school of international relations, educating students for professional careers in government, business, journalism, international organizations, academia, and nonprofits. SAIS enrolls 1,000 fulltime students across three campuses in Washington, D.C., Bologna, Italy, and Nanjing, China. Approximately 30 percent of our student body is international, coming from more than 70 countries. The SAIS Office of Development and Alumni Relations’ work touches the Western Hemisphere, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and is informed by a dedicated Board of Advisors.
The Development Coordinator will oversee gift and pledge accounting, information and data management, stewardship, annual fund, and related duties. This position aligns with core operations for SAIS DAR, such as Annual Giving, Gift Administration, Development Operations, and Donor Stewardship. The Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Development.
The primary responsibilities and duties of the position include:
Gift and Pledge Accounting: The Development Coordinator will process gifts and ensure quality controls in gift processing procedures. Work with the SAIS and JHU Development Business Offices, academic focus areas, and others to ensure accurate accounting codes. She/he will work with gift officers, divisional colleagues, and others to draft and send timely acknowledg
Information/Data Management: The Development Coordinator will be responsible for creating, managing and updating donor and prospect records, maintaining the SAIS prospect pipeline as well as entering visit notes provided by DAR team members. She/he will pull customized donor lists for activities such as the honor roll, initiative-specific solicitations, corporate and foundation alumni searches, and other initiatives. The Coordinator will also serve as liaison to university-wide Relationship Management group.
Stewardship Activities: The Development Coordinator will manage overall strategy for the fellowship and internship stewardship program: coordinate with SAIS Office of Financial Aid on awarding; secure materials from fellowship/internship recipients; send mailing materials to donors. She/he will design and implement other named endowment stewardship programs such as professorship endowments as needed. In conjunction with others, the Coordinator will plan and execute donor reception to introduce donors to their philanthropy’s recipients; work with gift officers and the Associate Director of Constituent Engagement to create collateral event materials. The Coordinator will also maintain mandatory stewardship records, pull stewardship reports, update gift officer actions and manage donor society lists.
Annual Fund: The Development Coordinator will assist the Assistant Director of Development, Annual Fund in working with recent graduate alumni within their first ten years of graduation and on the specific 10th-year reunion fundraising efforts. She/he will help design and implement an engagement strategy involving current students by working with student liaisons to craft campaign materials, hold events, and monitor student fundraising progress.
General Support: The Development Coordinator will support SAIS DAR gift officers with virtual forum preparation and logistics, future permissible travel planning and maintenance of prospect records, including entering key visit notes. She/he will also assist on special events and other administrative duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
