POSITION DESCRIPTION:.  

The Alcohol Substance Abuse (ASA) Treatment Counselor receives counseling referrals, makes professional assessments, develops treatment plans, maintains a professional record of each case, delivers counseling services, and facilitates positives behavioral change.  Services may also occur in the homes of the clients, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors or Arts or Science or BSW required; Masters Degree in behavioral science, preferably counseling, social work, or psychology preferred
• Minimum of two (2) years experience providing group and individual counseling required.

• If in recovery, must have three (3) years continuous sobriety and maintain sobriety as a condition of employment.

• Will need to obtained, as part of continuing employment, LASAC within 24 months of beginning employment. 
• Will be required to complete of Moral Resonation Therapy (MRT) Group Certification training.  Training costs will be covered by Yavapai-Apache Nation.
• Must have a valid Arizona Driver’s License and be insurable with the Nation’s auto insurance policy and sustain insurability throughout the duration of employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide individual, family, group counseling to Yavapai-Apache Nation community adults and youth.
• Will lead and co-lead groups for adults and youth in outpatient substance abuse program providing treatment and prevention services.
• Will provide on-call coverage on weekends and week nights, one (1) week per month as part of rotation with ASA staff.
• Provide mentoring to Tribal Member counselors in training; such as hands on group, individual, and family counseling with the Tribal Member counselors present.
• Counselor will advocate on behalf of Yavapai-Apache Nation clients with Tribal and County Courts.
• Participate with Yavapai-Apache Nation Family Health Court team.
• Provide services that include contact with schools.
• Transport of clients to and from inpatient treatment settings occasionally required.
• Counselor is required to complete monthly reports, maintain client files, attend staff meetings, clinical staff meetings and complete other necessary case management and referrals for clients.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  The noise level in the environment is typical of an office setting.  While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to sit; talk or hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
