Position Summary: Rutgers Correctional Health Care is seeking an Infection Control Nurse for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center located in Avenel, NJ and East Jersey State Prison, located in Rahway, NJ The Infection Control Nurse implements, and evaluates the Statewide Infection Control Program at the site with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS infected inmates within New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC) to ensure that NJDOC provides a safe environment for inmates and staff. Responsible for overall management and coordination of the HIV/AIDS infections and initiates infection control measures, as directed by the Infection Control Committee. Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Identifies and assesses the inmates with the primary focus on HIV/AIDS diagnosed individuals, inmates considered high risk and
inmates requesting HIV counseling/education. - Assists as a source of information and communication regarding infectious disease and infection control issues for the site.
- Plans and coordinates inmate/patient access to primary medical care.
- Coordinates and/or provides education to inmates in conjunction with HIV counselors and other persons assigned by Health
Services Supervisor. - Coordinates and/or performs HIV pre/post test counseling as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience: - Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
- Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Preferred Qualifications: - Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an infection control nurse in a correctional setting.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds). Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments, ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting is required, intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities, frequently walks, bends, stretches, pushes and pulls, manual dexterity and mobility for charting, hearing and sight are essential, ability to speak clearly is required, may be required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.
