Math Start enrolls students who have been accepted to CUNY but have not met CUNY proficiency standards in mathematics and whose significant math needs indicate that they may have to take multiple semesters of developmental math before taking credit-bearing courses. Math Start operates semester-long programs as well as varying 8-10 week cycles during the year, including summer and during the evenings. The CUNY Office of Academic Affairs, the University's community colleges, New York City College of Technology and the College of Staten Island work collaboratively to provide students with an innovative approach to developmental education. Both CUNY Start and Math Start are recognized for their carefully designed curriculum and pedagogy, as well as ongoing professional development. CUNY Start delivers instruction in multiple formats: in-person, online or as hybrid classes that are both online and in-person. Online instruction is a combination of synchronous and asynchronous teaching that is determined at the discretion of program management. The CUNY Start Program seeks a specialist in mathematics to provide content-related support for its math curriculum and related instructional methods, and to provide professional development activities for teachers and tutors.
