Woodberry Forest School is accepting applications for an Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling. Woodberry’s Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling will be a critical member of a four-person team including the Director of College Counseling, Associate Director of College Counseling, and College Counseling Assistant and Test Coordinator.
The Assistant/Associate Director position is a full-time, twelve-month appointment. Woodberry college counselors work with students and families across all four years of high school, beginning with general programming in the freshman year, and building toward a pairing of counselor and student in the fall of the junior year. The Assistant/Associate Director will help students identify colleges of interest, support students in completing their applications, write thoughtful letters of recommendation, advocate appropriately for students, serve as a resource for parents, and participate in professional organizations, conferences, and college visit programs, both on and off-campus. The Assistant/Associate Director will also serve as the point person for the continuing development of our sophomore college counseling curriculum.
The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills and a sense of humor. The role requires a desire to work closely with a range of talented students and a willingness to engage in the life of a residential school community. Candidates must be strong writers, good listeners, detail and deadline-oriented, and excited about working collaboratively with colleagues and students. A bachelor’s degree is required, as is professional experience in college admission and/or college counseling. As a member of a boarding school community, the Assistant/Associate Director will also be involved in other aspects of school life.
