Internal Job Number: P04093UF Description: The Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University invites applications for an Instructor (.50 FTE) and Head Advisor (.50 FTE) position. One appointee will be hired to fill both positions which will result in a combined full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term appointment. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head. This position is responsible for advising undergraduate students in Horticulture and Entomology, managing the undergraduate curriculum, and overseeing programmatic efforts aimed at student success, career development, recruitment, and diversity, equity and inclusion. These efforts are integrated with teaching both on campus and online courses. The main role of the position is to help both on campus and online students negotiate the undergraduate degree experience and to facilitate their future professional success. The position engages people of all backgrounds in a variety of modes including face-to-face conversations, group meetings, and written communication. Much of the advising takes the form of direct one-on-one meetings with students (either face-to-face or via Zoom). This is closely integrated with and supported by formal teaching related to career exploration and professional development. The Department of Horticulture (https://horticulture.oregonstate.edu/) offers a Bachelor of Science degree at the Corvallis Campus and via Ecampus. Our students and faculty have diverse backgrounds, and they come from all over Oregon, the United States, and the world. They also have a broad range of interests and expertise related to horticulture. The program emphasizes experiential learning and real-world problem solving. Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty): Typically requires Master’s degree in discipline appropriate to the field of teaching/instructional tasks. Requirements : A Master's Degree in a STEM or related field. Experience advising students in a higher education environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience teaching at the university level. Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Demonstrated organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and planning capabilities. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
