The College of St. Scholastica is seeking a student-centered, detail-oriented individual to process financial aid and provide financial aid counseling and support to students and families.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Ensures timely, efficient and accurate delivery of financial aid; analyzes data, determines financial aid eligibility, and provides aid notifications to students. Makes decisions related to aid awards and adjustments; interprets federal, state and College regulations to maximize aid awards, meet deadlines, and ensure compliance. - Reviews and processes FAFSA documentation; counsels students and staff on verification process; requests supplemental information as required; scans and indexes documentation; updates database system; reviews and sends corrections; revises/routes information to appropriate parties as required. - Provides advice and counseling to students, families and colleagues in regard to financial aid programs and services; resolves inquiries and issues according to the policies and procedures outlined by the College; answers inquiries related to credit load changes, drops and withdrawals. - Manages assigned financial aid programs including student inquiries, application review, and determination of awards. Reconciles, audits, and reports on program awards and activities. - Stays current on regulatory and College changes, updates and trends; participates in conferences, seminars and training sessions as required. - Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. - Manages the College’s Student Employment programs (eligibility, advertising, onboarding, contracts, wage review, community service connections, fund reconciliation, supervisory training, handbook review, reporting, etc.). - Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in student aid administration, admissions, counseling, or other higher education administrative work or two (2) years of related administrative work experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Knowledge & Skills - Ability and desire to provide exemplary customer service to students, parents and colleagues - Strong communication skills; including active listening, demonstrated professional written communication skills, and public speaking skills - Skill in using computer applications which may include: student information systems, financial aid management systems, document imaging systems, customer relationship management systems, word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software, and Web applications - Ability to accurately perform and document a variety of accounting and financial aid calculations - Ability to utilize tact, discretion, and independent judgment within established guidelines - Ability to solve problems involving student aid issues and processing anomalies - Ability to take leadership roles on projects, demonstrate initiative, research solutions, and be an adept problem solver - Ability to respectfully communicate and collaborate effectively within a team environment to accomplish departmental work goals and objectives - Ability to effectively work with individuals from diverse communities and cultures; possess cross-cultural communication skills and multi-cultural competency - Ability to work flexible hours and a variable shift, including some evenings and weekends as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Understanding of College enrollment management; including admissions, registration, financial aid and student services - Human Resource, employee onboarding, staff training, payroll reconciliation, financial aid, or other related experience - Skill in providing counseling to students and families in a variety of College processes and procedures - Experience with Ellucian (BANNER) or a similar student information system - Experience with Salesforce or a similar customer relationship management tool - Knowledge and experience utilizing automated financial aid systems, including COD, NSLDS, FAA Access, and CPS - Experience with document imaging software (BANNER document management, Perceptive Software, etc.) - Experience with the Google suite of office products (Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, E-mail, Calendar, etc.)
