Essential Functions:
POSITION SUMMARY: Position communicates regularly with third party payers to ensure medical services get billed timely and accurately in a manner to maximize reimbursement. Position will also communicate with physicians, nurses, OR, CPAP and others to efficiently schedule surgical services. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Tasks hospital OR to book surgery for assigned physicians upon receiving completed surgery scheduling sheet from physician.
- Tasks CPAP for patient appointments when needed prior to surgery.
- Enters orders for Covid Testing and schedules post-op appointments.
- Communicates to physician and staff any roadblocks encountered during the pre-certification/scheduling process.
- Maintains daily surgery/procedure schedule for assigned providers on their personal Outlook calendar. Maintains open communication with physicians and their assistants regarding their schedules through Epic in-basket.
- Maintains a shared calendar of all pre-certifications/surgeries in process. Notifies hospital Utilization/Billing Department of pre-certification.
- Initiates and facilities predetermination process.
- Contacts appropriate insurance companies for benefit verification and pre-certification of surgical and non-surgical procedures.
- Supplies all documentation required during pre-certification process to insurance companies.
- Documents pre-certification received from insurance companies and informs physicians and their assistants via Allscripts tasking.
- Enters surgery appointment in Epic Scheduling and the provider’s personal calendar.
- Notifies financial counselor for prepayment of surgical services.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
- Three to five years of experience in a medical office setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree.
- Medical precertification experience.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with co-workers/manager and maintain quality working relationships.
- Detailed oriented.
- Experience interacting with managed care plans, insurance companies and third party payers.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers including physicians, nurses, patients and families.
- Knowledge of CPT codes and ICD-10 codes.
Salary Range:
The hiring range for this position is $18.81 - $23.52 per hour.
