POSITION OVERVIEW
Instructional leaders are model teachers and pedagogical leaders who oversee teaching and learning in one or more disciplines across the entire school. Instructional leaders serve on the Instructional Leadership Team of the School, and are responsible for operationalizing Milken’s Educational Philosophy and upholding its Core Values and Mission. Instructional leaders give frequent observational feedback on classroom teaching, growth, and supervise and evaluate teachers. The instructional leaders partner with all three Division Heads, teach in two different divisions and collaborate across disciplines. Instructional leaders are responsible for their teachers’ vertical and horizontal alignment, coordination, and collaboration. Instructional Leaders work closely with the mentor teachers and report directly to the Instructional Dean.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Teaching and Learning
-Teach two visual arts classes across two divisions.
-Collaborate with and provide leadership and supervision to the Architecture and ---Design Institute Signature Program Coordinator.
-Provide demonstration lessons and serve as co-teacher when needed.
-Serve as the lead professional teacher and learner, running meetings, providing articles, and staying on top of research and trends in instruction.
-Set clear professional departmental and individual goals with faculty members and revisit these goals in quarterly meetings to determine support and professional development.
-Informally and frequently conduct “drop in” observations to offer regular, ongoing written and oral feedback.
-Formally observe all faculty instruction yearly and provide supportive, clear, and direct written and oral feedback to note areas of professional growth and needs using the Teachpoint platform.
-Participate in training to refine observational skills and ensure inter-rater reliability in evaluation practices.
-In partnership with the Academic Support Directors and Instructional Dean, review and edit faculty grades and comments on students’ progress reports, in order to provide feedback and encourage professional growth.
-Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive plan for ongoing teacher development.
-Design and evaluate methods of differentiated instruction and assessment.
-Evaluate horizontal and vertical alignment of curricula on a regular basis, including a formal evaluation at the end of each academic year
-Facilitate the implementation of X-Learning Pedagogy.
-Gather and analyze evidence about the quality of instruction with respect to standards and the expected learning results.
-Coordinate data gathering and analysis and reporting of the results of self-study, for the purpose of program improvement.
-Facilitate and be knowledgeable of information resources and technology use for exceptional teaching and learning.
-Work with the Division Head to advise on the course placement process.
-Oversee the consistent implementation of departmental policies.
Communication
-Promote and track faculty-parent communication and ‘official notes’.
-Oversee faculty website management.
-Liaise with the Academic Support Departments.
-Communicate with Division Heads regarding department faculty professional growth and challenges.
-Lead sessions for admissions events such as parent coffees, open house and feeder school visits.
-Create and manage a budget for materials and equipment in order to provide quality instructional environments for teaching and learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Has a strong sense of commitment to Milken Community Schools’ Mission, core values, and educational philosophy.
-Holds a Master’s Degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction or related field, and a minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience.
-Ability to learn and teach across a range of visual arts.
