Primary Position Function/Summary:
The Assistant Dean for Educational Innovation and Chief Learning Officer (CLO) serves a crucial role in the Gies College of Business’ mission to provide access to high quality, highly engaging educational opportunities across a diverse and global population of learners. The CLO serves as a senior member of the online programs team and directs all eLearning initiatives within Gies Business. This includes managing, planning, directing, and evaluating the strategic initiatives in graduate and undergraduate teaching and learning as well as in professional development and lifelong learning programs for the college and for the professional development for faculty and staff. This position is responsible for the identification, development, and implementation of scientific methods, instructional strategies, and learning technologies in the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities, including but not limited to: face to face meetings and synchronous/asynchronous eLearning. The Chief Learning Officer must bring a demonstrated history of the impact culture brings to an organization and have experience leading teams in evolving and rapidly changing online educational environments. Consistent with our research mission, the position will emphasize a research-based approach to designing and implementing new initiatives and processes for both learners and university faculty and staff.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership in innovations in teaching and learning
Identify changes in the academic learning, and in the professional development environments and evaluate and adjust college and departmental plans and processes accordingly
Manage large-scale instructional design projects. Conducts needs assessments, task analysis, and or content analysis to understand skill gaps and determine appropriate learning development solutions.
Recruit, lead and guide the incorporation of learning theories (pedagogy and andragogy) that promote student success and learning cognition, including the incorporation of cognitive, as well as non-cognitive and 21st century skills into innovative approaches
Leverage learning science to address instructional challenges and create environments that enable robust learning.
Plays a critical role in identifying and developing platforms that drive sustainable, scalable, and research-driven learning innovation, recommending, evaluating and maintaining the use of learning management system and learning environments that ensures effective learning outcomes
Provide leadership in the design of research-based pilots and iterative design and partner with a cross-functional teams
Maintain knowledge of instructional technologies and latest training and development research by attending workshops? reviewing professional publications? establishing personal networks participating in professional societies; publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Leadership in content design, production and evaluation
Identify trends, and implement new technologies and methodologies for teaching and learning in business and in higher education overall especially among our peer institutions.
Oversee and direct all activities related to planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of educational strategies and initiatives targeting graduate and undergraduate education, as well as professional development for faculty, staff and alumni
Lead a team accountable for overall planning, implementation, and effectiveness of educational / pedagogical development strategies and initiatives
Design and oversee product roadmap for grad and undergrad new programs and initiatives
Oversee and lead the design, delivery, and development of high quality, effective learning solutions using a variety of media.
Oversee iterative product development and implementation
Establish high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency in the development and implementation of learning innovations.
Strategic leadership and management
Collaborate to develop, implement, and evaluate the budget
Collaborate in the negotiation of contracts around services with vendors for world-class service
Oversee implementations of third-party content integrations and manage timelines.
Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Department to promote professional development activities for faculty and staff, and alumni
Collaborate with senior staff on various strategic initiatives
Responsible for driving fast-paced projects to deliver tangible short-term results while maintaining a long-term, strategic portfolio of learning innovation projects and systems
Foster a culture and framework of innovation and excellence
Maintain status as an approved continuing education provider for businesses with national certification/credentialing organizations
Ensure ongoing compliance and maintenance of ADA and AACSB Policies and Procedures and other external requirements and guidelines
College and campus representation and liaison
Serve as college liaison to assigned campus and external committees, task forces, and volunteers
Represent Gies and university as a thought leader in teaching and learning innovations
Identify mutually beneficial collaboration and resource sharing with other colleges on our campus

Position Requirements and Qualifications:
Required: M.Ed in Learning Sciences or Instructional Design, or related degree
Preferred: PhD/EdD in Learning Sciences or Instructional Design, or related degree
Required: Ten years in leadership of digital content development and management, assessment and outcomes measurement in higher education. At least five of the years in a strategic leadership role. Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Experience teaching and developing curriculum in higher education. Experience with accreditation and certification organization criteria, policies, standards, and processes
