Position Number: 004031 Department: Col of Arts & Architecture (Col) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 9 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsibilities include serving as the Director of the Master of Urban Design program, articulating a vision for the program and providing intellectual leadership within this context of local and global challenges. Acting as a liaison with the Director of the SoA, other program directors, the Graduate School, and the Office of International Programs; collaborating with the research work of the City Building Lab (CBL); overseeing curricular planning and evaluation; serving as the primary advisor for MUD students; leading outreach and recruitment efforts; and liaising with local professionals and communities. Responsibilities also include teaching urban design studios and seminars, potential courses abroad as part of MUD's integral international summer program, as well as advanced courses in the SoA's professional programs in Architecture. Candidates must be good communicators, effective collaborators, accomplished researchers, and innovative teachers. Minimum Experience / Education: UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate expertise in contemporary urban design practices, including but not limited to urban infrastructure, health and the environment, parametric urban design, urban ecology and resilience, or similar areas of concentration. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in urban design and possess either: 1) a professional degree in Architecture (M.Arch., B.Arch. + post-professional graduate degree, and or other equivalent degree) or 2) a PhD in architecture, planning, or related field. A professional license is preferred.
